If you cant make the cost of a conversion in the 3 years you are on your P's, punch yourself in the face repeatedly.
Fixed.

I think Ren has a whole heap of other things he should look at saving before before he even considers something like a conversion.

Just because I'm bored:
Cheap
- 96 WRX halfcut ($1500-$2k)
- Loom repin by Al ($1k)
- Fluids ($300)
- Major service (t/belt/seals/clutch/etc = $2k)
- Chinese 3" exhaust ($1k)
- You'll have 150-160kW @ wheels but that's the max you'll get.
Average conversion
- V3/V4 Sti halfcut (2-3k)
- Loom repin by Al (up to $1k)
- Fluids ($300)
- Major service (t/belt/seals/clutch/etc = $2k)
- Flipped core FMIC (easy $700)
- Walbro ($200)
- Chinese 3" exhaust ($1k)
- Manual boost controller ($50)
- 4.44 rear diff/shafts - you should have these already
- You'll have up to 200kW @ wheels, best heads, VF23 turbo (FTW), FAR better gearbox, 4pot brakes, alloy arms, 2.7 ratio steering rack, etc
Best/Expensive option:
- Bugeye STi halfcut ($8k-9k - or up to $11k-$12k with rear-end, which i'd DEFINITELY get)
- Reloom to use flashtunable ECU $1200-$1500 IIRC
- Fluids ($300)
- Major service (t/belt/seals/clutch/etc = $2k)
- Chinese 3" exhaust ($1k)
- Flipped core FMIC (easy $700)
- Walbro ($200)
- GD STi rear cradle (for
- Capable of over 200 @ wheels with more modern engine, unbreakable box, big diff, Brembos, etc. GD STi rear cradle has better roll centres, use front cradle and get steering knuckle customised so you can use the full front end. Win at life. This would be the ultimate Gen2 conversion IMO.

Hookers are cheap mate.
@iain
What conversion has your mate Mouse (no idea of his real name, gen 1 rs) done?
B4TT 03 Apr 2012
Ads up over time.
Hookers are cheap mate.
Iain, wow even the cheap option sounds like a lot of cash.. for the small price difference between it and the V3/4 cut it makes me wonder why anyone would opt to use the 96 option
