Hello all,

I'm a new member of this site and as such I require advice. I am looking to purchase my first car and am opting towards a Suby, at the moment tossing up between either a Liberty, Impreza or Forrester (Outback would be fine as well).
I was wondering what anyone on the forums would recommend, and in particular what is the better model of Liberty, either the wagon or Sedan.
I am only on my P's so turbo is out of the question, budget is around $5000- $7000 hopefully.
Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Hi I think for the budget you have a gen 3 liberty might be the pick, I don't think there would be a gen 4 in that price range yet, as far as a sedan or wagon ,well ,what are you using it for?? is the main question I would be asking , for me it's a wagon all the way!!!

Its really only to get around from A to B, but just for the space options id probably prefer the Wagon, is there a huge difference in wear and tear or fuel efficiency between the wagon and sedan? Im new to this kind of thing so i was just wondering what people thought.

Have not been in a gen 3 for a while but from what I remember fuel usage was pretty much the same between the sedan and the wagon. If you can keep an eye put for the 2003 RX special edition sports. It was my previous ride and just loved every part of it

Gen III Liberty N/A manual

Pros:
Good size
Reliable
Not too bad on fuel
Don't blow head gaskets every second Tuesday
Resonable suspension tune from factory (like most Subarus)
The N/A's do not suffer from blown engines or other turbo issues
Good swag of safety features standard
Rear looks nice

Cons:
Geniune part are expensive (like all Subarus)
Front looks like a bashed in shit can

I've had mine for four years and never had to carry out non service repairs.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Gen 3's can be had for under 7k.

5 at my school, most spent on one was 7200.

Just hold out, they sell fast.

Cons:
Front looks like a bashed in **** can

I should have gotten a Gen3.

Then you'd have a fuckugly gen3 though.

I would have gone to the kitchen, collected a brown bag, dropped my dacks, pinched off a loaf in said bag, done up dacks, stickytaped bag, placed bag in envelope, and mailed it right to your face for being such a tool.

It's ok, sometimes when we herp, we also derp.

Haha, this thread was a good read, thanks for the advice. Would it be preferable then to perhaps opt for the Gen 3 Liberty wagon or is the Gen 3 Sedan just as good?

Loaded gun thread!

GenII's are better than GenIII's.
No, GenIII's are better than GenII's.
No they're not.
Yes they are.
Not.
Are.
Blah
Blah

:P

Gen III sedan is just like a Gen III wagon but with a slightly different front bar and grill .....and a smaller boot.

Sedan would most likely be a bit cheaper and easier to find.

I would suggest a manual over an auto.
The manuals run a constant AWD system where the autos are torque sensitive.....

.....but manuals use the useless abomination dual mass flywheel.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

Both my liberty's have been wagons so I think I would be a bit bias
BUT go the wagon!! nothing worse then having to leave something behind because you can't fit it in .......like the wife ..........mmmmmm maybe my next car should be a sedan !!!!
