Anyone know where these bits are from (fro...

My mates Gen 3.0RB started making some odd noises the other day when it revs over 3k. Did an oil change and took off the sump and found these little guys sitting in the bottom.
We’re thinking maybe a valve/restrictor to do with the AVCS? Anyone else got any ideas?
Car still runs and drives ok (albeit a bit noisy).
Cheers

Are these beasts chain drive cams?
Must be small to fit through the sump plug hole but looks like a hydraulic cam chain tensioner.
Is the noise like a rattle?
If it is from AVCS I would expect that one side would be more noisy than the other.

They are indeed chain driven.
Really doubt that part of the AVCS system could fall through the heads and the car would still run! AFAIK most of the AVCS system is outside of the motor anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions guys
It's an MY07. The diameter of the pulley is 4-6mm so it's tiny!

Haha so where the hell did it come from!!
Car sounds fine until 3k then starts rattling, kind sounds like a big end

May be from the valve train or an oil gallery somewhere.
Ive never opened one of these up so Im kinda guessing.

Aek, find a copy of a PDF service manual and skim through and see if you can find the parts in there?

Ok so found where that little bastard came from, it’s the adjuster from the timing chain tensioner.
Subaru wouldn’t let us view one to confirm the part came from there so we just ended up buying a new one and replacing it.
Also took the sump and oil pick up off for an inspection and found some interesting stuff in there…
Bearing Y U in bucket not in engine??
Benny’s found me a replacement engine so that’s probably going to be the quickest and easiest solution. Or put it back together with some thick arse oil and see if someone will trade it in
