If no one here has the answer, give your local auto shop a call and they'll be able to tell you.

The EJ25 is 4.5L but I just chuck a whole 5L bottle in when I change the oil. That includes the filter though...

6-6.5 litre's. Why wouldn't you change the filter as well?

Well then, in a "perfect" engine if the oil stays oil colour, why isn't the oil doing its job?

You can never have a perfect engine as all engines will suffer some amount of 'blow by' during the power stroke. This forms basically a carbon buildp (fuel is a hydrocarbon) in the crankcase. One job of the oil is to suspend the carbon particles in the oil so they can be disposed of when the oil is replaced. If the oil remains clear (LPG only vehicles tend to do this) then the carbon deposits are not being trappped by the oil.

Not the greatest explanation but you get the idea.

If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

I have a B4, remember? It runs on unicorns so I don't suffer from any blow by in my oil. Only the odd unicorn horn ends up in my oil every now and then.

Yes the B4 engine is a unique beast.

You can actually refill the crankcase with dirty oil and the egine will clean it.

Apologies OP.

Hi,

For the cost of a filter, you may as well change both.

6L seems about right.

Cheers,
Nik

If you are going to do it now, why pay someone to do it again in 3000km?

My thoughts exactly ...then I remembered it takes most people longer than 6 weeks to do 3000km :P

Hi,

Exactly. If you are a lower kilometreage driver, three thousand kilometres could easily exceed the prescribed oil change date.

Cheers,
Nik
