Thanks to ButtDyno for posting this information on NASIOC. The original thread has further replies and information in it also.

What do I need to swap Brembos onto a WRX?

You can either
a ) Swap 04 Brembos over - easiest if you can find them
b ) Swap 05 Brembos over - a lot more work, though there are advantages to using the larger hubs and whatnot

Very cliffnotes version:

Fronts will bolt up, but you will need the rotors, pads, calipers, and bolts.

Rears, not so much, and you have to use a brake caliper adapter. I believe Ken@WRXBrakes has one, Dan@MachV has one, and Tom@Kartboy has one.

04-08 Subaru Brembo Caliper will swap on the any RS or WRX no problem. You will need the 04-08 Caliper and an 04 Rotor (5x100).

The to do the rears you ether need a bracket and the special rotor Brembo makes for the swap or you need to get an 04-07 STi Rear Hub Assy (04 only if you staying 5x100). However, you can swap to a 06-07 WRX rear Caliper (same as JDM 2 pot) and run a stock 06-07 WRX or 04-07 Legacy GT rotor with the special l bracket Kartboy makes for the swap.

The two main differences between STi and WRX hubs is the diameter of the e-brake assy and the mounting points on the hub for the caliper.

Also, could we have a summary of what it takes to swap brembos? Something like this:

Brembos, like most other Subaru brakes, are interchangeable between models. However there are a few extra things that are needed.

Rotors:

The 05-08 STi has 5x114.3 rotors, where all other Subarus are 5x100. This means only 04 STi rotors will fit on other cars.

Rear Backing Plate:

The rear Brembos are 2-pot fixed calipers, and they will not bolt up to cars with 1-pot rear calipers. They will bolt up to an 06-07 WRX. To install them on another Subaru you need to swap backing plates (a pretty involved process requiring a press), or buy some adapter brackets. Kartboy manufactures adapter brackets and they are sold through various nasioc vendors.

Rear Parking Brake:

The STi has a 190mm parking brake. Most other Subarus have a 170mm parking brake. That means if you put 04 STi rear rotors on your car the parking brake will not work. Previously the options were to deal with it, have some spacers made to fit in the rotor, or buy expensive taller brake shoes from Godspeed in the UK. Fortunately DBA has started making a 5x100 Brembo rotor with a 170mm parking brake drum.

So, to swap brembos you need:

-Calipers and bolts (any 04-07 will work)
-04 front rotors
-kartboy rear adapter brackets
-DBA 2657 rear rotors

The 08 rear end is different and I don't think the calipers are interchangeable. You could use the 08 black front calipers though.

Any front Brembo caliper up to current is a direct bolt on, Rear calipers up to '08 with adapters.

You'll then need wheels to clear.

I sourced at request, JDM 18 x 8 STi wheels, had them repainted, sourced the complete Brembo set up, refurbed the calipers and fitted everything on this '02 B4....

i have fitted GD sti brembo's to:
GC8 ( front and rear, rear R180 so bolt on 5x100)
Gen1 lib ( front and rear using GD 2 pot rear hubs and DBA adaptor 170mm handbrake discs 5x100 you also need to remove the rear dust plate by crilling out the spot welds)
gen 1 lib ( front and rear using R180 rear so rears bolt on 5x100)
gen 3 /outback ( front and rear , rear using original B4 backing plates with the dust lips removed , used Cruizn's dog bones and DBA adaptor discs, 5x100)
gen 4 GT ( front and rear , rear using r160 / gen 4 auto rear diff, uisng original GT backing plates with dust shields removed and cruisn's dog bones, DBA adaptor discs 5x100)
BRZ ( front only , front uses 5x100 01-04 GD sti 330mm disc, you must also reverse the calipers, involves switching the bleed nipples and blocking plugs around , also need GD/GD front brake hoses)

GR STi brembos:
GR wrx ( front and rear, GD 01-04 STi front disc, GR front brembo caliper, GR rear caliper WITH NO ADAPTOR directly bolts to existing backing plate, must remove the dust shield lip, you need to chisel it off, you cant really drill the welds out. you also need the multi stud patern 5x100 / 5x114.3 drilled rear disc available from DBA)

other options for rear assy :
Cruisn can now supply adaptor brake shoes meaning you can run 190mm handbrake discs on 170mm hubs without the expensive DBA disc.

you cant really run the STi dust / backing plates without re drilling them and welding the holes up, its not really safe or recomended. the dust hields do SFA anyway, i've removed them from every one of my cars even the ones without brake upgrades as i've had rocks stuck in the rear plates.

$115 inc postage.

If you can, get to Marion Brake and Clutch in Sydney (where I had these done) and they charge $66 for the set to supply and bond new material to your shoes.

My price is as it is as I had to pay for postage both ways to get them done and now postage to the buyer.

I make zero $$ on these as
