I posted a while back about doing a conversion on my 98 RX impreza hatch from an EJ20 - EJ25.
I have decided to turbo the EJ25 i have rebuilt, i have rebuilt the motor for a turbo but i am just wondering if the stock gearbox will be able to handle the motor with a HDor button clutch now that i put a turbo on it? Ive got almost everything i need to drop it in then this issue pops up LOL!
Another thing i am also curious about is if its hard to put disc brakes on the rear and remove the drum?
Cheers,
Diz

The gearbox is the same as any other 5 speed, you will still be using a push style clutch from the RX though so keep that in mind..
Yeah rodger that, what i was wondering is if there was any difference between the NA EJ20 gearbox and the EJ25 turbo gearbox because im hoping i can just use the EJ20 gearbos with the motor i just built

I wouldnt use a button clutch though, as thats too agressive.
I reccomend a HD exedy pressure plate with organic clutch disc. They should do these in the push style.
As for the brakes, you can convert the rears but you need the knuckle, caliper, discs, handbrake cable, handbrake assembly (shoes, springs, clips etc) and brake lines..

Yeah you can. Just be Weary how you treat the gearbox.

Ah sweet thanks for the info mate, i knew the disc brakes were goin to be a challenge

PS an RX gearbox won't last long. boxes that come with EJ25 turbo are waaaay stronger (still no 6spd though)

I had a stock clutch with over 200kw, they handle the power fine as long as you aren't stupid with it.

Can you even get 6 speeds? and if so the EJ25 would be better?

400A! Thats pretty big!
400A! Thats pretty big!
Yeah ive been speaking to the Kicker team in the U.S and they seem to think im going to need either a dual alternator setup or a single 400amp alternator to run 4 Kicker 15" L7's, 2 X ZX2500.1 amps and 2 X 4-Channel amps. They said i could use 4 batteries or 2 2000cca batteries with the 400 amp alternator and i really dont want to try and hide 4 batteries lol so the 2 with a 400 amp alternator is the way to go i reckon.

Haha all good
The WRX STi's that were built between 01-current had a 6 speed gear box. The Gen 4 Liberty 3.0 spec B also had a 6 sp gearbox.
Alex and Matt have installed the STi 6sp into their cars and I was just mucking around

I imagine there'd be a bit of work to plonk on in a standard RX...
Waste of money to try though... The 6sp's cost around $3-4k alone.

No point putting a 6 speed in unless youre pushing a good deal of power or are looking to flog it a fair bit, as they are super tough

What year is your rx? And what have you done to the engine? Wouldnt mind gettin some ideas! I mean ive got some decomp pistons and cosworth head gaskets so im going to attempt to run a fair bit of boost but apparently its not a good idea with the older EJ25's
