Hi Guys,

Excuse my stupidity but I've had my fuel needle on empty and I've never seen the low fuel light appear on the dash.
I'm just wondering, does it even exist!

Also curious to know, how many KM's do you get to a tank? (If you own a liberty GEN3)

It certainly does. Supposedly the Gen3's have a fuel gage problem. There not very accurate and the light doesnt come on very early. This was my car after 512km

And I still had 9 litres left in the fuel tank. Really annoying!!

Haha yeah, with A/C cranked most days :) I found that after a wheel alignment I got better fuel economy, then after installing a newer gearbox the car feels much more spritely and I'm not wasting revs when the old box kept falling outta 5th! Yet to do 300,000km service as I'm at 280k kms :) could also be that I have now have a few thousand km on my tyres and they are not dragging as much?!

How much does petrol does the tank take when you fill it? On my B4 the light doesn't come on until the needle is well past the E, lol. I can usually get 500-550km before the light will come on, but I usually fill up earlier. There's something unnerving about driving with the needle below empty.

I do about 50 km once the light comes on, needle is well below empty by that stage.
64 lt tank never been able to put more than 55lt in. Go figure that shit.

My old Gen 3 used to get about 14-15 litres per 100 around town and about 10-11 on a trip.

I highly doubt there was. It was the same the whole time I owned it (50 000 to 100 000kms)
Mate of mine got about the same out of his 2.5 Forester.
I did drive it pretty hard though.

i get around 470 without being conservative. (always 98) get 600+ freeway driving. best i ever got was 640 driving out to Condoblin.
also parking on a steep incline (my driveway) means it come on VERY prematurely. like before the needle even gets to the last line. BUT it does go back to normal after 10 mins.
also i find mine to be quite accurate in accordance to the line/light ratio when its not parked in my driveway.

with my gen3 2.5 rx auto, i seemed to chew fuel faster with 98ron as opposed to 91ron (which i run very very rarely), though of course, a drastic change in "power" and "response".. i clocked ~510kms mixed driving on the 98, yet to measure how many kms on 91

Thanks scoobyoutback for the photo!
I'd have refilled the tank long before the needle reached that point. I'm going to see how far I can push before refill - this might get exciting.

I believe i was getting better fuel economy (450KM's) on my 16" wheels. Since putting on my 18" wheels my fuel economy seems to have been worse (400KM's) . I will be changing my tires to a 40 series instead of the 45 series hoping that this will fix scrubing and fuel economy and giving a more accurate odometer reading.
I've always used 95 fuel. When refilling i THINK it's about 40 litres I'll double check on next refill.

Thanks for everyones help!

Yeah the tank should take about 64L, I think the light comes on with 9L or so?

Hi Guys,

Excuse my stupidity but I've had my fuel needle on empty and I've never seen the low fuel light appear on the dash.

That's because the 'E' mark isn't actually empty. Empty is actually where the needle is in the dash. You gotta go beyond 'E' to get the light....
