Hey guys...

I ordered an Ebay oem style radiator as the top plastic started spraying coolant around the overflow bottle and pulleys.

BRAND NEW SUBARU LIBERTY B4 TURBO AT/MT RADIATOR BRAND: GOLPHER (ISO/TS 16949:2009, NQA and IATF CERTIFIED)

http://cgi.ebay.com....ME:L:OC:AU:3160

How would I make sure all the old coolant drains out? Just remove the radaitor drain bolt? Does having the car facing slightly downhill help? Does the hose method work to flush out old coolant?

So basically unbolt the radiator, fans and both hoses. Anything else I need to know?

Pour in premixed coolant, something like 7 litres, idle the engine so the fans run 2 or 3 times...then top up the header tank and make sure it stays full.

Is nulon long life coolant ok to use?

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

I just did my radiator. I just unbolted the hoses, and pulled the whole unit out. (After unplugging the fans) much easier to take the fans off out of the car.

I'd assume a b4 is te same setup.

As far as flushing goes. No idea :)

When refilling, I fitted the bottom hose. Then filled up the rad through the top hole, then put all hoses back on, put coolant in the header tank, and then topped up with water, stuck a funnel in the hole, that was a perfect fit around the hole and ran the car until it stopped bubbling out the funnel.

There's a bleeding cooling system DIY on here that will explains the last part better :)

If u wanna flush the whole system out you'll have to take out the thermostat...

Oh...how about I just leave the thermostat for now.

Do you think Nulon long life coolant is okay to use without a flush?

Thanks. Do I have to worry about stray current?

It's always good practice to ground BIG aftermarket aluminium radiators. (Mishimoto, Golpher, Koyo)

If I ever have to install them. I usually throw them in, Fill/Bleed system, Then get a multimeter, Set it to volts, Dip the positive in the header tank, Earth the earth and look for a reading.

If you have nothing, Happy days.

If you have 0.01v or higher, That's bad. Electrolysis is a nightmare.

No need to worry though. Get yourself a couple of ring terminals, A meter or two of black ground wire and earth the radiator so the multimeter doesn't read any voltage.

However, The radiator you have posted is a OEM style one. It will not need to be earthed.

Also, Don't worry about flushing the system. The Nulon stuff will work fine.

Thanks a lot guys. So what do I do about the 5 litres of water I topped up while driving the car home slowly? I'm guessing by the time I got home most of it would have mixed with existing coolant and leaked along the road.

Will most of that tap water drain(along with old coolant) when the bottom hose is removed?

When you remove the bottom hose, Just let it drain until nothing comes out.

You will be getting most of it out of the system this way. If you are worried about water being in the system, Buy a bottle of anti-freeze concentrate and make your coolant up that way.

Just throw a bit more in then the standard ratio they recommend. Won't hurt it :)

It will just mix in with any water and happy days.

Umm. Why are there 2 gold holes on the new radiator? Everything else is identical to my old one. Did they send me an automatic version? How do I plug the holes?

Do the auto transmission holes just loop transmission fluid through the bottom tank? I don't have to plug them right?

Thanks cam... New radiator installed

I managed to fill up almost 6.5 litres of coolant and half a litre in the overflow tank. The header tank was bubbling here and there.

Radiator fan came on 3 times after idling for about 20 mins with the heater on.

By the way does the passenger side fan always work on its own? The other fan will only spin when the air con is on.

Anyone had their radiator clamps leak in cold weather? My car is parked in the garage but i guess it can still become < 10 degrees....

I had a tiny puddle, probably only 20ml of coolant leak on the floor... The leak is from the middle under plastic guard under the radiator. (the front center hole of the splash guard)
I believe I have these clamps.. should I change to spring type or worm clamps?

I couldn't see any obvious leaks but maybe the top hose shrunk and leaked down sightly overnight?
Any special way to ensure the clamps stay tight?

Bad luck. My 2 week golpher is leaking from the bottom tank.

Lucky I made it home this time but the overflow only went from full to halfway between the low and max markers.

Slow hairline leak after wiping the mess and idling for 5 mins.

And splash guard showing the leak from the middle of the radiator. My water pump, etc aren't leaking. Thank god...
