I usually weld straight but it depends majorly on the position and kind of weld you wanna run. That zigzag would be to control the molten pool and stop it going in a certain direction.
"Vertical up but weld" you move the mig torch up in a triangle motion like a christmas tree.
Rain on F1 qualy made things interesting

Welding what?

It was welding a frame for a table. So normally when you weld you just go in the direction you want in a straight line, no circle patterns or zig zags?
