Wiring all done up to the fuel tank lid :)

All much much better than before!

20150806_152159.jpg

Gonna pull the pump again tomorrow and drill and connect up the bulkhead connectors, then seal them up and let it sit for 24hrs to cure

Also waiting on a replacement sard jet pump killer, which replaces the fuel venturi on the pump assembly

It has more open passages to stop it restricting the fuel pressure reg and causing higher then wanted pressures

Also sucks the passenger side fuel a lot better than the OEM one :)

And ill line up, drill, tap and mount the STi surge box while its out aswell

Also i ordered some 34mm black silicone hose for the BOV as it was using some radiator hose for the past year

Could only buy a metre though lol...so if anyone needs some?

Can't hurt.

I suspect the voltage drop across that would be close to zero!

Over the relay, or over the lot?

Both will be pretty good i think...only got 0.1v drop with the last wiring set up, and this has cut out all the smaller wiring except for the pumps wiring in the tank

This is mainly to piss off the old and average OEM connections, as theyll be coping 20A soon enough

But its much more solid and proper now

Only 5 heavy duty crimped and soldered connections on the positive side now.....and thats only 4 lug terminals and the one joiner at the battery for the fuse install

And only 2 connections on the ground side....the lug at the lid...and the joiner at the fuel pump controller onto the OEM wiring

The relay, but I suspect over the whole circuit it will be minimal.

Ah yep...should be pretty good...and the 40A relays get pretty damn hot apparently aswell

So a waaaaayyyyyy over rated relay should keep it happy

Pulled the pump assembly again today to do the finishing touches to the system

Spent the morning custom fitting the anti slosh box the the rs assembly....not as easy as i thought it'd be lol. Mainly due to the two piece arm of the rs...ie the bottom bolts on and off

Took a fair while of checking and double checking. ..but it all fit up good...sits about 5mm lower than standard, but i fit it up to the tank and it fits fine sitting on the bottom :)

While i was there i also trimmed the first barb off the pumps outlet, as in stock form it jams up hard against the hard pipe on the assembly...like realy hard! Read about this issue on naisoc so it common. Still plenty of barbs left on the pump so wont be an issue...just makes it much easier to install

20150807_111439.jpg
20150807_111512.jpg

Once that was done i started eyeing up the bulkhead electrical connectors....picked a spot...drilled some holes...cleaned the holes up and fitted and sealed the connectors

The sealant isnt exactly tidy as its so hard to get in to...but as long as it seals im happy :)

Got my Sard jet pump killer fuel venturi today...damn its a quality bit of gear!! All billet and very well presented :)

One thing i noticed is just by blowing into the return line pipe it pulls a good vacuum on the syphon pipe barb.....the oem did not do this regardless!

Hell the oem struggled to do it with water lol

So im confident this will do a much better job of pulling the fuel from the passenger side over, whilst giving the return fuel less resistance aswell

Required me to cut 2 inches of pipework off the return and syphon pipes on the assembly...both have been filed and deburred and will be fully cleaned out before re install to ensure no metal gets up in there.

Unfortunately doing this i have lost the flanged end of the pipe...but seeing how tight it fits and how little pressure it really sees, im sure some tight hose clamps will be fine to seal it up ;)

This is just a test fit...will have hose clamps holding it all together ;)

Will all be going back together tomorrow...should be a bit of a step up on the stock RS set up i think lol

Had time to kill last night so i went back and re-read this whole thread from the start

Holy crap she's come a long way! I already knew it, but reading about it and looking at the state it was in surprised me all over again lol

Its taken a decent amount of time (and moneyz) to get to where she sits now....and i know every single nut, bolt, scratch and dent on this girl....but for what has ended up costing me about 10k out of pocket after selling unused bits i am simply stoked with what ive ended up with :)

As her 2nd birthday with me draws near (on the 19th) i simply cant wait to actually finish the main mods and tune and start using it as intended and surprise a few people in the process lol

As always...im one happy Subaru owner :D

Yes, it is amazing to see how far it has come.

You have done an amazing job on it, especially having only cost you around that $10K.

Get it out on the track.

All back together and ready for install

20150808_110156.jpg
20150808_110205.jpg

And double checked the pump wasnt touching ground, as this can cause lots of issues with some walbro pumps that tie their grounds to the pump body (this one doesnt though...i checked ;))

Its all good...but unfortunately it seems fuel hose is in a way conductive....not much though lol

Gave me 161k ohms which is pretty good for a 12v system i reckon...and about as good as i can get

20150808_110255.jpg

So....

AMPS = VOLTS ÷ RESISTANCE

So 14.4v ÷ 161000ohms = 0.000089441 amps

Or 89.4 microamps going to earth....she'll be right ;)

Holy crap she's come a long way!

Absolutely, plus this thread is a great resource.

*insert internet thumbs up here*

So 14.4v ÷ 161000ohms = 0.000089441 amps

Hahaha, trust you to measure shit like that. :)

Just for giggles, it would be interesting to compare the actual reading when under load.

Thanks Jas :)

The reading has actually gone up over 1 meg ohm when in the tank....and thats good enough for 240v AC so its good enough for me :)

P.S the assembly was impossible to get in the tank as is lol....had to unbolt the level sensor and get it all the way in then rebolt it back up

How would i measure that? Seeing as its tracking a few mm across some fuel hose? If it was an AC system yep....but with the chassis ground how do i do it?

The only way I could think of is to measure the voltage drop across the hose when its in the tank and running.

Just a matter of drilling a couple of holes in the cover. :P

Done!

20150808_132829.jpg

I put a bit of extra conduit on the metalwork around the terminals as a just in case. If they come loose atleast they have some chance of staying safe and not ground out

Best thing about this whole upgrade?

Car starts first time.....every time!!!

No matter how cold, how long its been sitting there etc.....it just starts :)

After it taking 5 to 10 goes with the dw300 pump im stoked its better!

And measurement wise i think the voltage drop is identical to before...as before i was measuringoff the pump side of the relay and getting 0.1v drop

But now measuring at the terminals on the tank lid im getting 0.13v drop

Same..same as the old setup still had to go through and extra 2 oem connectors and a soldered joint, but i was unable to measure it that close

Have you tried Batt+ to pump+ at the cover for total drop?

Nope...dont have long enough leads or any spare wire

Measured at the pump and at the battery and deducted the pump voltage from the battery voltage

Same thing
