I'm not actually rendering. (At this stage) so probably don't need that much grunt :)

No I did not realise :)

Bit worried about that graphics card though? Guess I could just upgrade that and I'll be on about 2k

Just pickup a 2GB gaming graphics card for a couple hundred. That will be plenty for 2D/3D CAD. It's really the full on rendering where a workstation card comes into it's own ie. Maya and Solidworks.

Here's a pretty good comparo

Yeah with two Xeons, it'll be a workhorse. And because there's a second CPU you get an extra 4 RAM slots.

There's also the Z range from HP, like the Z600. Plenty to choose from.

CPU looks fine at 14%, but you're running out of RAM which in turn is smashing the pagefile on your hard drive.

More RAM!!

Yup.. you needs more RAMs

+1 for the Z600 workstations..

i pretty much exclusivly sell Dell Systems but when it comes to CAD stuff i always prefer to push the HP Z's
They are great and priced well too..

better warranty too.. usually you get onsite next day way cheaper than Dell..

Raidam, just puchase a full system and write it off on tax.

doing it component by component is cheaper short term but if you have a "dedicated work machine" you can write the lot off and you dont have to stuff around with the "i used the system for Xy% personal and ZY% work..

and then they are all certified CAD machines.. so no stuffing around making sure drivers are compatible etc..

the number of times i have had to stuff around with incompatible drivers because of AutoCad.. Faaaark..

oh and the systems come without all teh Bloatware BS

Seeing as it is a flaw in OpenSSL, it will be a problem for quite a lot of sites, but I'm guessing there will be a fix in the form of a patch very soon.

Yes it is pretty huge. Basically any site that uses an Openssl certificate to encript your data could be leaking your password/credit card details unknowingly to a third party.

That being said, SSL encription has been broken on IOS (iphones) and OSX (mac computers) for a while. There was a patch to fix that only just recently albeit quietly.

Hi,

I have the understanding that it cannot be patched; but that is simply from reading, also came across this - stay off Redtube yO!

PayPal isn't vulnerable. No issues there then.

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Can't be patched, the site has to have new SSL certificates generated and applied.
