Hey Dudes.

Weighing up wether I should do the timing belt and cam seals on my car, or take it to a mechanic.

Got any tips, do's or don'ts. Things to steer me away from it?

Any special tools I will need that I'm not likely to have????

Easy as piss, I did it 2 years ago nearly all on my own.

Quad cams are a touch harder (what yours is) just gota watch the cams cause they spring back.

Replace the o-ring behind the cam seal if yours has it. Mine leaks now and I'm kicking my self that I didn't replace it. Now it's a pita to do just for an o-ring.

How many kms are on the motor and car now?

Have you put any more thought into squeezing some more power out of the engine. Like strapping on one of those intake fans

Have you a workshop manual Adam??

Silly question, but where can you obtain these from? I am looking for one with the best detail for a Gen IV. I want to start doing things on my own.

I would pay somebody to do it if I was in your position.

Nothing worse then installing a seal incorrectly and ripping it all apart again.

I'm getting a lot of work done in my next visit to ICHIban, 'dam, which includes a few seals and O-rings. I agree with Cam above on this one. Unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing judging by your past fixes. I'm not being negative towards your hands on approach of course, I actually envy it, but there's nothing worse than fixing something and having it pop soon after.

Take your time Adam and double check everything as i goes together.

As Cam mentioned if you are not 100% get a professional.

I bought mine from eBay for about $10.

Factory based but there is NO 6 speed and NO H6 stuff in it. WTF.

If the body has over 300 then the motor will too.

Send an email to Kris at rising sun subaru.

Tell him what you got and what you need and he'll hook you up :)

their timing belt kits were $450

that was belt, idlers, oil crank seal, and a new tensioner all OEM subaru then like another $100ish for a water pump and the cam seals were like $10 ea

I got a new thermostat and thermostat seal. make sure you get a new water pump seal if you replace the water pump :P

Timing belt isn't a hard job, but it can be fiddly. The subaru timing belts have marks on them that align with the marks on the cam wheels and crank which helps.

And the seals are pretty easy to replace.
