The covers arent scheduled to come off the all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI until next weeks 2014 Detroit Auto Show, but official photos of the car have already hit the web. The photos, posted on Mexican website Autos Terra (via World Car Fans), show the new WRX STI from most angles, and in its World Rally Blue hero color.
Though it looks similar to the regular 2015 WRX on which it's based, there are a few elements that make the new WRX STI stand out. The most obvious is the large rear wing, which is joined by a slightly more aggressive body kit and STIs signature gold-colored wheels.
Unfortunately, no additional details have been released. Peak output should match or come close to the 305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque of the outgoing WRX STI, most likely derived from an upgraded version of the regular WRXs turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Weve also heard that a larger 2.5-liter unit may be fitted instead. A six-speed manual is likely to remain the only gearbox option.
In addition to more power, the new WRX STI is also expected to benefit from stiffer suspension, uprated brakes and a vehicle dynamics control system.
Well have full details soon, as the covers will come off the 2015 Subaru WRX STI in Detroit on January 14.
