I've been a part of Suby Club for a while now so I thought it was about time I put up a detailed write up of my car.
This is my MY06 Subaru STi that I purchased from a middle aged lady in Melbourne in Nov 2012. It was Immaculate, 100% standard, 1 owner, full service history, with 43k on the clock. She was selling it as she had just purchased a new AMG C63 Black Edition! It was exactly what I had been looking for, a clean slate.
This pic was about 10mins after my brother and I picked it up. Fresh!
I got plenty of time to get used to it all on the drive home to Newcastle...Fun times.
Within 12hrs of being home I'd already started pulling it apart and changing/adding things. First mod was a Kartboy short shifter and shifter bushings. I also installed a Ultrex STi replica front lip.
A couple of months went by and I booked it in to MSR for some go fast goodies. He installed UEL headers, up pipe, ported the turbo to match the new up pipe, silicone intake, 3" exhaust and a tune. Very happy with the result, totally different animal! From factory the drive by wire throttle is also a bit slow to react so this was also sharpened up.
With all this new found grunt the already worn original clutch stated to slip.... So back to MSR I went and had a Excedy OEM replacement installed.
I've removed the air intake resonator and did the PVC pipe mod inside the front guard for more whooshing/choo choo noises...HAHA. I swapped the factory BOV to a Coto Sports unit as well, It looks identical to factory but has uprated seals/internals and more pronounced sound.
The original front seats were a bit of a disappointment coming from a MY99 WRX. They lacked that tighter hugging feel and also sat really high up. So I replaced them with some My02 STi seats as they are much firmer fitting and sit lower in the car. One of the best things I ever did!
By now the original tyres had seen better days so I replaced the lot with a set of 18" Advan RZ's wrapped in Michelin PS3's
The brakes have also had an overhaul with new DBA rotors, Ferodo Pads and fresh fluid.
A Perrin turbo heat shield with PTP blanket underneath help to keep under hood temps down and the TMIC happier.
The latest mod has been a set of MCA Red Series coilovers. Wow, what a difference!!! Coming from a 100% std setup, these have sharpened up the handling nicely, grip level is amazing, so stable and planted its ridiculous!

I should just convert to single, right?As soon as she hands it to you, slowly take of your pants, then, while staring her straight in the eyes rub it against the tip of you penis, while continuing your painfully intense gaze whisper to her;
"My eye is watering, this might be a bit hot"

Gotta say I'm always staring at this every time I see it. It's what I always picture an STI too be.

That's an STi I wouldn't mind catching
I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

All seemed to be going well and with 95k on the clock I was rounding up parts needed for the 100k service. And....then it all went pear shaped. Head gasket started to go (pushing water into overflow) and then loss of power and finally lots of smoke..... After doing a compression test I found the problem, #2 piston ring lands were gone. I kind of knew it would happen eventually so I wasn't that upset.
To save cost I decided to do as much of the work as I could myself. I had very little knowledge about how it all worked and thought this would be my best opportunity to learn. I took heaps of photos during the removal and bagged all the nuts and bolts separately with a description of where it came from. This saved so much hassle during reassembly!
Once it was all out and stripped back to the bare long block, off it went to Deshele Performance.
It was a slow build. What started out as "just a basic rebuild" snowballed into other things once I got into it. One thing lead to another and before I knew it the budget had doubled HAHA! But 11 months and 2wks later it was back on the road with a run in tune just in time for HVC 15.
The plan for this build was never outright power but reliability. Overbuilt and under stressed was my aim along with as much a factory looking engine bay as possible. I also set a few boundaries, it had to retain factory location/under manifold setup and a TMIC. It also had to run on 98 fuel as I drive this car most weekends, sometimes up to 800ks over a weekend of back road fun and didn't want the hassle of E85.
Build specs:
Deshele fully close deck block
JE forged pistons
Argo rods
Deshele 14mm headstuds
1mm stainless/inconel oversize valves
HD valve springs, titanium retainers
272 cams
DIY TGV delete (gutted and plugged std TGV's)
GT Pumps S03.5 turbo
ID1000's
AVO fuel rails setup parallel
AVO GR STI TMIC
Modified Zero Sports splitter to suit larger GR core
PW 72mm CAI
AVO 1pc inlet
Mishimoto X Line radiator
Mishimoto Fans
Mishimoto oil cooler
Saikou Michi duel catch cans
Air pump delete
Jim Berry 3800lb clamp clutch
Final tune by Silverwater Automotive came to 256kw on BP98 at 22psi. Very happy, drives great!
I can't thank Mark Berriman and Cam Johnson enough for all the help with removal and reinstall of the engine. Champions! Also a huge thanks to Brad and Garry Scott for all there help, advice and sourcing parts along the way.

Have you considered Aijmod for flex fuel compability ?
Least that way you aren't stuck to one fuel
