Has anyone on here heard of this problem before? http://blog.1aauto.c...aru-turbo-read/

TLDR: Oil filter inside banjo bolt does its job and filters oil for turbo but is often not replaced causing premature turbo failure.

I did a quick search on subyclub and only found this page,

http://www.subyclub....o +bolt +filter

I'm checking out a liberty gt spec b (build date dec 06, plate 07) today and I was curious to see if these are replaced under the normal subaru service or

if these are a common problem with other gen 4 gt owners? Any owners will blown turbos due to oil starvation pointed back to this culprit?

More information regarding replacement of said banjo bolt. http://www.iwsti.com...re-install.html

Apologies if I have missed older threads posts discussing this.

I think they are one of those "worry about it when it fucks up" type of service items.

There's a thread on legacygt about taking the screen out or replacing the banjo bolt with one without the screen.

Did the gen 3 tarbo also have this problem ??

Good read thanks for the info.

There was a factory recall on the SpecB's for a dodgy turbo oil feed. Check it's been done before buying.

Remove it asap if you own one. The filters have been known to cause issues with AVCS and the turbo oil feed.

The following is more important though:

06+ 2.5's are EXTREMELY notorious for the oil pickup in the sump to snap and cause serious issues. Check if it's been replaced under warranty or in the past. They usually have.

If not. Keep it in mind as it will need to be upgraded to a stronger one. KillerB make a fantastic replacement.

That issue is unrelated to this recall right?  http://www.recalls.g...l/itemId/953009

Just spoke to subaru at Brisbane toowong, the 25+ year foreman of the service dept has never seen/heard/touched these filters before. He said that don't have that filter in the aus delivered models
Showed him the subaru service notice regarding the filter, will post this later for everyone to see, he said that's for usdm models only.

Here are the Subaru service announcements regarding the filters/problem.

The mesh screen which is located inside the banjo bolt that secures the turbocharger oil supply pipe to the back of the right side cylinder head should be checked to make
sure it is not clogged or restricted especially if the condition of the oil is questionable or as to when the last oil change was performed. If clogged or restricted, it will reduce or cut off the
oil supply to the turbo resulting in failure. The oil supply pipe should also be checked to make sure that there are no obstructions.

Removed the filter today. Was really clean, couple bits of debris here and there but definitely 80% plus clean. Goes to show that you cant trust Subaru Toowong because apparently these filters do not exist...
