Hey guys,

Just installed a boost gauge and i'm only getting around 6-7psi max on boost..

Was inquiring on another thread about my Coil packs and a couple of the boys on here (Samwise and alexxx?) mentioned i may have issues with my waste gate lines setup.. Stock boost being around 10-11psi.

Now until i pull of my lines i cant be 100% sure, but from the little research ive done it sounds like the guy who owned the car before me might have replaced the turbo vacuum lines and not replaced the restrictor pill?

I'm going to replace the lines myself but am curious where the heck i would get a restricor pill? Is this the sort of thing you can only get from a Subaru dealer?

Am hoping to get new vacuum lines;  To wastegate actuator, to turbo compressor housing nipple (with restrictor pill inside) and to wastegate solenoid valve...

Anyone run into this problem before?

(attached are diagrams of how it should be set up)

subaru australia sells it but i think only as a "kit" with the vacuum lines and t-piece for around $65 although i have heard of people being able to buy them on their own for $3 or so. Probably worth getting on the phone and making a few calls to local dealers to check. If they can't help maybe try subaruparts.com, subarugenuineparts.com, subarupartswebsite.com, buysubarupartsnow.com etc but post would probably make it not worth it.  You could even someone like MRT or Pulse who may have them

Dude, i wouldn't even bother. Get a manual boost controller, tee it up and set it to stock psi.

Thanks AekOne!

I have tried my local Bursons Automotive who I usually turn to for those random speciality parts, they don't stock them but suggested trying either Bellevue motors or Subaru.

I tried Bellevue first, a sort of import performance workshop near my way. They weren't too helpful as the guy suggested that 7psi seems about right for stock boost? I mentioned to him that the guys who did my engine swap for me at SubGuru Sydney said I should be getting around 10-11psi, same sort of numbers that 'Samwise' and 'Alexxx' suggested in a previous thread, Bellevue ended up suggesting I try Subaru as he doesn't stock them.

I honestly don't mind paying the $65 and replacing all my vacuum lines, just getting the car back into stock condition and fixing all those little problems you run into when buying a used car from a young dumb owner.

Just thought id check first to see if I could hit up my local auto shops in case it was a sort of 'everyday' item..

Hey Jimbo, are you sure this would this fix the situation entirely? I intended to buy a GFB manual boost controller anyways for $99. If this will fix the situation I will definitely do that instead!

I'm willing to bet that old mate who sold me the car had a boost controller in and pulled it out before he sold me the car just to save a few bucks..!!!

And it looks like you have the coil on plug set up so the Bosch coils I have will be a direct replacement. And yeah can use a manual boost tee( which I also have one for sale lol) should fix your problems. Add a one way valve before the map sensor and you can have boost up to 16psi trouble free.

I would. Considering it's something you'll do anyway in the future. Easy to plumb in, they're cheap. If you set it to stock psi, you wouldn't even need to do a OWV either, but leaving it at stock is never going to happen :)

Turbotech MBC from ebay, $30
Set of 01 WRX COP coilpacks, Then you can bypass the stock igniter.

Much better than Bosch coils with leads and crap.

Hey Reevesy, what sort of price on those Bosch coils? I'm pretty poor at the moment so might have to hold off for a couple of weeks either way. If its a pain in the ass dw but could you possible show me a diagram of how I should set it all up including the one way valve? Just want to make sure I do it all correctly!

Hey Jimbo, haha what's an OWV?

Robbks, not too sure what ill end up doing but it sounds like nabbing some 2nd hand Bosch's from Reevesy is going to be a lot less of a hassle... What's the difference in the two setups?

Thanks for all the replies lads, lifesavers!

100 for coils with leads. Will throw in a turbo smart boost t for 30 if needed. And I'm only on the central coast so if you pick them up I can help you install it if you want.

And OWV = one way valve.

Yeah, legend!

I might take you up on that Reevesy! Is this a pretty straight forward sort of thing to do?

I'm only down at Caves Beach too so not far at all. Ill probably head down this Friday/Saturday if you're free brother. Might as well grab the boost T too for that price.

Recon I could pick up a OWV from like Autobahn or something like that?

Thanks!

my dealer located the part for a restrictor pull before and successfully supplied one, it was around $2. this was a few years back now though.

as others have said though, MBC or an EBC will give you some cheap worthwhile gains. (if you think 7psi is fast 15 will surprise you).

Definitely take Reevesy up on that offer :)
Bosch coils, boost T and about 14-15psi and you won't know yourself ;)

If you're in Newy you should try hitting up Bradstreet Parts at Hexham for all of your subaru spares, they've always been able to help me out. They supply all the subaru dealers in the area with their parts I believe.

Oh really? Thanks dude! I'll definitely keep that in mind man, always need odd bits for my cars! Thanks Grant!

When I first did my car I was only hitting 10psi and thought it was good, Then I fixed up my leaks and hit 14.6psi now and could not be happier.
