Hey guys. Having bought my first car just a few weeks ago and slowly tidying everything up i decided to get a thread going on the progress.
This is my 1990 Subaru Liberty Gen 1, unfortunately it's auto and fwd.... I bought it about 7 weeks ago for $900. It was quite banged up the last owners son learning in it and also had a few problems as well. The real reason I was so keen on the car was that it had only done 103,000 km which for a 24 year old car is really good
The day after I got it
You can see the worst of the damage on the rear door, needed to get a replacement and then bog up the arch.
Also the boot had a decent dent in it aswell.
First work to be done on the car was a good clean and vacuum of the car as it was in major need of it. Also removed the hubcaps as there were only three, looks like the rear left was scraped off in the smash. Then it was onto making the car roadworth, which wasn't much just both blinkers and rear tyres. Once that was done it was onto cleaning up the scrapes, bumps and stains.
First to go was the front bumper and right-hand fender, this was because they were just too misshapen to be fix up.
The door was next to go, as was the magnet mark on the hood left from a P or L plate. I was also able to get a front bumper, rear left door and right hand fender from a wreckers. Luckily for me the car they were scraping was almost the same colour, maybe just darker.
Before, notice the damage continues onto the arch then rear rim.
Progress, new door installed.
After, found a can of spray paint which turned out to be the exact colour of the car so once the arch had been bogged and smooth it fit in pretty well, slightly darker.
I was really happy on how the car looked without that scrape, after this things slowed down.
Replaced the CV joints, drive shaft and CV boots one weekend but didn't get any pictures as it was dirty and not really photo worthy. Luckily got the pair for quite cheap for a trade-in of the old ones.
While the sun was out took some better pictures.
You can really see the colour difference between the door and the rest of the car in this picture, it's not as obvious in person or in the shade.
Engine bay after a few rounds of degreaser, it was pretty bad because both outer CV boots had split, sending grease everywhere.
The boot what the next thing on the list of panels to repair. Someone had already tried to fix the ding but because the boot is double skinned it was impossible without having to grind pieces off.
Got another boot off the car at the wreckers for cheap and all that's left is to change everything over. The clear coat on the new boot is peeling quite badly and will require a respray or something else.
For now that's mostly all that has been done,
Next to be bought:
- Headunit + front speakers
- spoiler off an awd model
- rims maybe off newer Liberty (if parents ever stop refusing saying they're pointless)
- Other small things.
