Wondering if anyone can help me clarify the differences between the models of hawkeye Impreza's?

We've recently acquired one in the family however the CS/Gumtree ad wasn't clear on the model... Plus it's got some weird ROH 15" wheels on it so I'm not sure if it originally came with hubcaps?

Scrolling through Redbook, here's a list of models that came in a manual hatch:

- Luxury S

- R Luxury S

- R S

- RV Luxury S

- RV S

- S

- WRX S

All have 2.0 engines (bar the WRX).

One variant has variable valve timing - can I check this from looking at the engine?

RV is obvious

WRX is obvious

So how can I tell between the R's, S's and RS's?

Cheers!

EDIT: Carsales ad listed it as an 'RS S' which of course is different again?

Cam timing you can tell as there will be big bulges in the timing cover. It will be obvious if you put it next to one without it

I guess that's something I can check! Would that make it 2.0i or 2.0r?

That's definitely true with the peanut eye (along with climate control in the higher models, etc) but every hawkeye I find seems to conflict my knowledge of other GDs!

Ours doesn't have the one-piece WRX seats but they are the same colour combo and made out of the same stuff...

Pics might help?

I like to think of it as borrowing someone's car and driving it better than them.

Back lights help me in a way. :P but thats still pretty weird for my car also, its the standard impreza, but it has like a sports kit or (limited edition)  for the interior.

Vin decode!!! Forgot about that...

You might have the top if the range NA, Matt? Does it have the one piece seats? What was it advertised as when you bought it?

Doesn't Redbook give a breakdown of the VIN?

Found some info on Wiki. It's definitely not a WRX STi so I don't know how accurate it is!!

The advertising was pretty interesting, they mentioned it was a Impreza S which i had no clue about either lol. but i had the impression it was a premium style or kit for the interior? but i wouldn't know. haha

Really annoys me how Subaru dropped all the badging on their cars from around this era.

No one can tell what anything is anymore haha!

I'll have a look in the service book, cheers Wub

If you have download the service manual

http://www.mediafire...pdftown.com.zip

Vin breakdown should sort out your dilemma... Also remember some things could be optional extras

I like it.

Mine says LIBERTY, just like all the others.

Maybe try CarSales and just compare the VINs?

Not good from an I-don't-even-know-what-my-car-is point of view

I'd just get the VIN and give Subaru a call. They should know straight off the bat. If they come back with the info and there are accessories/parts that shouldn't be on that model then I'd most probably assume it to be an optional extra by the buyer when the car was first bought.
