Subarus new generation WRX family achieved all-time record sales of 691 in April, according to official VFACTS sales figures released today.
The figure includes 141 WRX STI variants, only launched in late April.
Incredibly, it represents a 466.4 per cent increase over the same month last year and smashes a 15-year record of 469, established in 1999, at the height of the dotcom boom, when first generation WRX was creating a buzz.
Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia, said: This is a fantastic response and the most encouraging aspect is the high level of conquest business.
New WRX and WRX STI are attracting new buyers to Subaru with their great mix of performance, comfort, value-for-money, specification and Subarus trademark reliability.
Were getting especially strong demand for the sports Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission WRX, running higher than anticipated at more than 50 per cent of orders.
Mr Senior said some WRX variants are now on back-order to August.
New WRX and WRX STI drove total Subaru sales in April to 2903, a 13.7 per cent increase on April last year in a market that was down 5.2 per cent for the month.
