I was hoping id avoided this by having an EJ22 but there are signs its happened. There was drops of water on the ground at Harrigans. So far there has been bubbles in my radiator overflow bottle. Not big ones more like beer foam on the top. The coolant doesnt appear to be milky or brown at all, still the usual green. There are no bubbles in the radiator when idling or revving the car.

My oil has gone from full pre hvc to below "low" this could be due to doing 2000+ Ks but seems excessive even for that. The oil is quite runny and is a light brown colour. No white smoke or anything like that. Engine doesnt over heat or run rough. There was some noise but im linking that to the low oil level now.

If it is the gasket it seems ive caught it early?

If it has indeed blown, ive thought of a few options

Repair/replace the current gasket/engine etc

New(second hand) short block

New(second hand) EJ25 - wouldnt mind this as some extra kilowatts would be nice. I happen to know of someone who has reccently bought aids for his outback so could easily get my hands on all the bits needed to convert  assuming its not too much of an issue. According to the internet if i keep my current intake manifold its a simple block and heads swap?

Replace rad cap

Do you have oil leaks?
I used half a litre of oil on HVC little bit burnt most leaked out

Smell inside your overflow bottle. What does it smell like? Coolant should smell sweet. If it smells like your exhaust, You may have a cylinder-water jacket leak (No oil is mixed with coolant)

You have done some pretty harsh km's over the past few weeks, Freeway driving to giving it the beans at hvc. The stick only shows about 400ml's between empty and full.

EJ22's are awesome and only usually do headgaskets if they have corrosion in the cooling system.

Keep driving . Worry later . EJ22s are bulletproof.  Has anyone checked the cooling system for you lately?  Make have some issues.? you dont know about ? Ive lost count of the

number of Gen2s that Ive inspected that have.

We gave it a quick once over maybe 3 weeks before HVC. Is there anything i should look for in particular?

No major leaks that i know of. The usual wheepage from memory.

I gave the radiator itself a whiff and it was sweet. Will check out the overflow tomorrow. So it should be ok to drive to supercheap for some oil tomorrow then?

and thanks for the helpe everyone!

Thats a relief. If it wasnt for P plates this would be an ideal time to convert  <_<

Hey guys,
Also have ej22 with a possible head gasket. Not losing much oil and I don't have an external coolant leak or mixing of fluids. Has always lost a small amount of coolant between services. When it first started my coolant was bubbling when I turned the car off. Last time I drove the car it started overheating a lot.
Radiator cap?

Sorry to hijack but it saves me making another thread.

I don't have p plates which makes this an ideal time to convert but uni student budget :(.

NIck, Dont worry about the low oil..

It will be that leaking Sump gasket i told you about remember. lol

As for the coolant.. lets dump it out and flush the system.. i bet its just gunked up..

you gave it a pounding last weekend..

Dont stress brah.. 22's are unkillable

i ran mine dry a couple of times haha

if anything we would just swap the gaskets, can be done in car on the 22

you cant really use Simons 25.. its too much head fork.. for small gains..

92kw vs 115.. meh

Had a bit of a drive around today to get some lunch etc. No foam in the overflow but there was some bubbles popping up just after I turned it off. The overflow didnt smell like exhaust but it wasnt as sweet as the radiator. Kinda smelled like honey
