Hey everyone just a quick question before I start panicking I've just bout a 02 club spec wrx. On cold start up the revs drop fairly low I think around 500rpm and when this occurs I get a rattle ( it's not violent but definitely towards the bottom of the motor so a little concerned. Once near operating temp it's almost non existent but still there on and off my understanding of a bottom end knock is that it would be there constantly and would be fairly obvious ( correct me if I'm wrong. I've had a couple with piston slap and this seems to be something different. Any advice greatly appreciated

Hi Mate,

We all here would probably interpret rattle in 1000 inconceivable ways to what you are actually getting and will give an additional 1000 different reasons. When talking or trying to get help with these things it's best to give an actual recording, or link a youtube clip of it.

Cheers,

Will

Do you know the history of the motor? Maybe it's had an engine rebuild in a previous life with forged pistons.
