I didn't have an airbag so I just had to mount the stalk in the new wheel. There will most likely be holes or indications of where it goes. Just open up both the wheels and compare.

had a closer look and took some pics for you guys,

the momo wheel has like a bracket there which im assuming activates the horn when the copper bits come together, the old wheel has none of those brackets

any ideas on what i do here?

also the plugs for the airbag are different, is it safe to be cutting and soldering wires regarding an air bag?

thanks heaps

luke

also sorry for the double post on this thread

Here's a pic of what I did.
8fFvJwJ.jpgI removed the right hand brackety thing then cut out the section under Neath and screwed my bracket into the plastic. Its not ideal as there are now holes in the back but you can't see them when installed. Do not cut or solder the airbag wires. You'll introduce resistance which could delay the airbag. There probably is a right way to rewire it but its not soldering. Hope that helps

I only had it out to get the stalk in. For the stalk I was able to see the outline of where its meant to be on the actual wheel.

can you swap over the airbag modules (the circular bangy-bangy bit) ?

The four bolt arrangement looks the same from this distance.

You can't cut the airbag wires dude.

Its just two wires. No different from joining any other wires if done correctly, ie soldered and heatshrinked. The connection would outlast the car.

Looked into it and yes you can.

Yes it is just two wires that you can solder and i'd be confident in resoldering them, but it's not something I would take a gamble on. I would imagine every join would add resistance to the circuit which SRS don't like.

You should be fine as long as you connect the wires correctly.

If not........

my old 96 gx never had airbags so i removed the detonator from wheel and gave it to subaru ipswich, used the stalk and wires from the old wheel and added it to the momo ( similar to what y'all did here ) . bit of dremeling on the side so the stalk moved like it should and didnt jam/hit anything and she all works fine . ( and i know most won't want to cut plastic away and try poke it thru the back  , but mine was already scratched and old so i didn't mind )
