How's the coolant level? Make sure it's topped up fully and the system has been burped for air.

That is strange, because in a Climate control car the coolant is always running through the core. I would assume its the same in a non CC Car.

Also I think I saw your car at Ctown Hungry Jacks a few weeks back!

Its an airlock in the cooling system either from trapped air or hester core has a hole in it . Jack up the front open the bleeder on top left of the rad . Run the car idle until the fans come on twice thermostat will open and shut then . Top up water . Then replace rad car and bleeder. Of it still happens then just do what i did and go to pirtec get a hose joiner and bypass the heater core and drive for a week and see if it still happens
