This is an idea I stole from Mark (CRUISN) to lift the front numberplate on GenIV's to the centre of the bar.

Knocked up a template on the computer and cut it out of 5mm aluminium plate. I gave it a brushed pattern as the plate was badly scratched.

Tapped the top holes to the std. M6X1.0 thread and countersunk the bottom holes so the plate sits flush.

This is how it sits on the bar, fixed with stainless countersunk screws.

So I ended up with this...

....from this.

Thanks for the idea Mark.   :D

Haha very nice - just the appropriate amount of detail.

I might just have to borrow this concept too.

At the other end of the scale, I cut a pair of approx 1" length 8x3mm Al stock and drilled a couple of holes in each, then forced in some self tappers.

Its an awesome bit of engineering

Does the number plate sit out a bit further now?

That would work just fine.

It's all about having a go.

Could you go a thinner material and build in some structure / support to stop flexing and have it sit more flush ?

Stuff goes here

Now he's going to have to rework all the torque figures for the bolts....

Might be worth using some stretch bolts

Doesn't really flex much. If the bar wasn't plastic you may be able to use it as a tow hitch.

I did think of doing a CAD drawing, then 3D printing a prototype, then make a mould so I could make it from carbon fibre. Having it laser cut from unobtainium was also an option.

TBH I think the only way to make it thinner would be to cut it from flat sheet, then fold in some ridges. End result would be sitting in roughly the same position plus it would need the nuts welded on or use speed nuts to hold the number plate.

Ahhh... i see... that would be awesome. Thanks heaps :)

the problem with my bumper (B4) is the plate area is dipped in so i'll need a bracket as well i guess...

The B4 plates just need to be spaced out before you put the bracket on, I just bought a slimline plate for the front and then bent the outer edges so it bolted up and didn't touch the outside edges of the indent.
The previous owner drilled two holes in the right spot to mount the plate up from the normal spot into the centre of the crash bar. Check my build thread, I think I have a photo of the original car before I bought it. Shows the number plate mounted up a bit.

Edit - I should say the holes were drilled into the number plate (approx. the middle of the plate too). I thought it looked odd, so I bought the slimline plate and went from there.

MY00 Red RX, a nice daily that was sold off once the B4 became reliable...
MY02 Blue B4, aka 'The Project' - v8 JDM STi engine package and assorted other 'goodies' - Sold, then bought back for parts. Stripped and crushed.
MY03 Blue RX, the newer old daily, pretty well more B4 than RX now... In the process of being converted to the track toy... Watch this space!
MY02 Silver Wagon, H6 conversion, full blue/black leather and almost full black interior to go with it.
MY03 White/Silver H6 Outback, donor car for silver waghoon.
MY97 Silver RX, acquired to become track car, but plans changed. To be stripped and scrapped in time.
