'04 XT with blown head gaskets and warped block - need to rebuild or drop in replace (prefer)

Considering: Rising Sun Subaru, All Drive Subaru, Ichiban and Deshel...

Any comments on above options, opinions or alternatives?

I am running out of budget for my upgraded Forester XT project.

 

Instead of a full SS 3" turbo back exhaust which I would really like to get, I'm thinking of getting the following instead:

Questions -

 

Will this have a significantly higher flow rate than the standard system?

 

Will it bolt up without requiring any modifications?

 

Are any other basic breathing mods required before I get a full tune to 'unleash the beast', eg: cold air intake, up pipes, etc?

 

How will this compare to a full 3" TBE for power output once tuned?

 

I'm basically trying to decide whether to go 2nd hand to get 90% of the performance at 50% of the price, or wait 6-12 months for the budget to recover and getting the 3" TBE and tune then...

Anyone planning on getting one when they're released? Stock or planning to mod?

 

They look like a hell of a car, I'm a bit disppointed with the CVT only drivetrain though - I'd be counting the silver coins in my piggy bank if it came in a 6 speed manual..

The SG update that seems to have been released around 2005 with the updated head lights, grille, etc - is it feasable to swap this onto one with the previous front end treatment?

Boys and Girls,

 

Bought my 04 FXT off eBay for a 'song' on a wing and a prayer.

 

It has turned out to be someone's paddock basher / farm vehicle they have decided to 'teach' themselves about mechanics on....

 

It has a non turbo gearbox (+clutch) fitted, the shifter has been chopped (badly) to be a semi sort of short shifter and prematurly screwed the bushes.

 

I has the fear about continuing the project.

 

At a minimum it will need 2x tyres (probably 4), front CV joints, rear shocks, lots of lines and pipes replaced, possible new radiator, gearbox and clutch and I'm not sure what else.

 

That said, the engine and turbo appear to be in fairly good condition, and the chassis too - for the age. Given I bought it cheaply, there's 5-7k to spend to bring it up to a reasonable spec within the budget - and hopefully any mods for less than ~ 9k.

 

Is it possible? Am I barking up the wrong tree? Any suggestions?

 

Coilovers?

 

Heavy duty clutch?

 

6 speed STi gearbox?

 

Cut and run?!

 

HELPP!!! Ahhhhh!!! What a nightmare!
