Probably not the best place to ask but don't want to just start another post as it's probably been discussed before. But i have looked and couldn't find anything and tried a few google searchs and can't find the info i want. Probably because its a simple question that most know the answer too. But new to turbos so i really have no idea so sorry if anyone gets upset about me asking here. But any help would be great. . .ok so onto the questions. 1st off i was under the impression from the little i know about turbos (or thought i knew) that if you're not hitting boost and are still under vacuum the wastegate wouldn't make any noise as it only opened to release pressure. But my gc8 is making releasing even when the gauge is reading that its in vacuum i can hear it pppssshh when letting my foot off or changing gears at around 5 vacuum obviously i just thought it was hooked up wrong or the gauge is stuffed but been told it isn't although i don't really know the bloke well enough to trust. So does anyone know if this is normal or am i right in thinking if it really was under vac there would be no sound as there's no pressure. .and if its not normal what is the most likey reason. .i don't seem to be losing boost it seems to hold but haven't really given it to much. .also while I'm asking i have been told gc8 have a fairly loud waste gate compared to most . Wondering if yous agree as it seems to make more noise then i would expect from standard wastegate driven gc8 before through work but all with aftermarket BOVs so not sure what it should sound like stock but after the 1st drive it was loud enough to make me think it had a aftermarket straight to atmosphere bov. .thanks in advance for any help will be running the car up to a good mate thats into his turbos next weekend but thought i would get some input before hand

Thanks guys yeah i knew about the vin just don't under stand why on the actual rego one says g3 or what the difference between the two are as they are both gc8s but after plenty off looking around finally found a nice clean one in my area 116,000ks still basically stock and well looked after inside and out so not bad for a 18year old car

Hey thanks guys. .bennie i hadn't actually thought of that might have to have a look into it . .but being that the ej22's are abit harder to find and with running the same intake would/did it make much difference or did he just put the ej22 longblock in because his was going and thats what he had on hand? And i wonder if it had to be a pre 97 ej22. Because I've heard they reshaped the intake manifold on the 2.2 after 97? Any futher info would be great mate. .but either way if your not to sure I'll defiantly look into it as to weather or not it'll be worth doing. I guess if i was to change going up to the 2.2 could only be better in the long run. But if theres not much room for power improvement there its probably not worth doing if the current ej20 holds. But once again thanks it gives me something else to look into.
Cheers
