Ride height inbalance front shocks on Legacy B4

11 June 2018 - 09:49 PM

I have a 2003 Legacy B4 RSK that I did a RHD to LHD conversion on. It's done now and everything is sweet apart from 2 things.
1. 1 noticed that the front Tyre on the drivers side.(L) is somewhat closer to the driver footwell than the other side. I immediately assumed that this must be from a bent lower arm, maybe I thumped a pothole too hard. So I changed it for a new (scrapyard) unit but no. Things remained the same. I've checked under the car and everything seems straight. I can't seem to put my finger on what's wrong

2. The ride height on the same side is about an inch lower than the other side. I again have no idea wise. I hear that on the Nissan GTR, the the springs are not the same left to right to compensate for the driver but find it hard to believe that's also the case here. Is it worth while switching my springs left to right to see if it balances out. Could it be the steering and servo that have now moved across from right to left that could have caused this imbalance?. Any ideas would be welcome.

Smoking B4 twin turbo

16 April 2018 - 09:28 PM

Good day

Some might recall last year I posted my 02 B4 twin turbo RHD to LHD conversion job. I now have a big problem with blue oil smoke at all engine RPM. Its not much noticeable at Idle but wring out the engine and it smokes like a banshee, worse when your driving it as it throws out a plume of smoke. I messed up a bit when doing the conversion as I initially installed the primary turbo way down in the engine bay in order to clear the steering shaft in the LHD conversion. In doing so I did not make allowance for the fact that the oil waste is gravity fed back to the engine and so I flooded the turbo.

Having now rectified this by elevating the primary to a near standard fit position I started the car and started having the oil smoke issue. It was terrible at first but quietened down eventually to where it only smokes at higher revs.

So I took off the primary and using an Ebay rebuild kit overhauled the VF31. i believe I did it correctly but I am not seeing much improvement. It has reduced the smoking but only slightly.

Now the car may be 16 years old but its only done 25k miles having been in storage for over 10 years. My question is. Are my problems definitely the primary turbo or could there be other issues that could cause this smoking?. Could it be my valve seals or worse piston rings?. I certainly hope not but would like some advice before I start stripping the engine to bits on an unguided search mission.

The other thing I noticed is that the car revved with much higher alacrity before my conversion, Now is much slower and with more vibration.

Any help would be much appreciated.

P.S. I also had the Silicone inlet pipe header conversion as the old plastic pipe had cracked at the connection to the Primary turbo.

Good day,

I have almost concluded a RHD to LHD conversion on a 2003 Legacy B4. One item still bugs me however and I was hoping someone might be able to steer me (excuse the pun) in the direction of where I might be able to find a suitable LHD steering rack.

The original RHD version had a speed regulator on the neck of the connection to universal joint. I imagine what it does it proportion the amount of fluid that goes into the steering rack, more at low speed less at high speed. I cant seem to find its LHD equivalent despite several web searches. I dont know if Impreza WRX or STI might be an option If I could find one. Maybe I could change out the link arms to match my car.

Now there is a signal line that I cant connect and it shows up as a steering error on my dashboard.

Any help would be appreciated. Pictures of old rack attached
