Secondary Air System Failure

02 November 2017 - 01:44 PM

Hi guys,

I have a Subaru Liberty 06 thats thrown a P2441 CEL code, valves have shut closed on the secondary air system.

After researching this issue I have learned that an eliminator can trick the ECU and fix my problem, however apparently they dont make them for my model so thats out.

I dont want to replace the system because its stupidly expensive and prone to breaking again. Not to mention it only operates for around a minute on cold start ups for emission purposes and thats it.

my only potential option is to remove the system, put in block off plates and remove the codes from the ECU, I know this can be done for other models such as WRX but I have no clue if it can be done for my car.

Questions: can the system be removed, if so, can the codes for the system be removed from the ECU permanently? What do i specifically need to tell the mechanic to resolve this properly without breaking the car!

thanks.

EDIT: Further research shows there is a good chance my ECU is Hitachi which is not supported so the codes cant be removed (according to 09 posts anyway), anyone know if a work around has been developed?

Picture of my engine here, with the air pump and two valves visable, seams like it will be a lot easier to remove than for other people:
