#623958 KONG's 2017 WRX S-Edition

Posted by aekOne on 20 July 2023 - 11:22 AM in Builds and Projects

hey mate these are the dash trim pieces i was talking about in the levorg thread. these are genuine subaru pieces from a 2018 STI. Mint condition. I bought them assuming they would be the same as the levorg but unlike almost everything else that fits betweent the two models, the levorg has a different shaped dash trim than the VA WRX & STI.

Not sure if you'd be interested but they're avaialble and for sale of you are..

For me, the nicest thing about this car is only bolting on brand new quality parts with the only exception being the BPV I got from Aek. It's a totally different game than sourcing older & used performance & JDM parts for a Gen3 Lib.

It's a great feeling unwrapping new parts and carefully installing them.

hahaha AMEN BROTHER!! Everything fits & everything works. Its a beautiful thing..

funny as i was scrolling through market place, i just realised the other day, i think the ganador mirrors on the unicorn are pretty much worth more than the rest of the car.. what a time to be alive

Yeah awesome! I love the look of the Levorgs but doubt I’ll ever have one in my stables with the way I’m rolling at the moment!

Hopefully there’s more to this story in the future AekOne, it’s good to see some new build threads on the forum!

Cheers

Bennie

cheers mate, i hope there is more to the story too!! the levorgs have the grey interior roof liner and plastics so i'm thinking of getting a black set of plastic's from a WRX and dyeing the roof liner to make it a bit more moody on the inside. I just ordered a chargespeed style rear diffuser so that'll be the next thing to go on then to tackle the roof liner i think..

That's awesome mate! Looks great, it sits real nice ... love it.

You sure have put a lot of work into it.

Chuck up some pics of the engine & interior mods when you get a chance. I'm keen for a sticky beak  ^_^

Thank you sir.

Pics below of the engine and interior (i have't put the new steering wheel on yet but will be sure to update the post when i do).

I want to do those fender shrouds like you have so i need make sure i add those to the to do list too!

Actually that makes me think, i have a set of genuine Subaru carbon dash trim's for VA WRX/STI if you didn't already have them and looking for an upgrade. They're off a 2018 STI in mint contdition with no broken clips or marks. let me know and i can send you come pics..

Fark, Who's this Aek cubt ??
Car looks great, with heaps of nice mods

Forken eh cnbt!! Hope ya well mate.

You reckon anyone would be up for some kind of iteration of HVC24? Was speaking to a couple of lads at Dylans wedding and there was some interest to do something and then there was the FB post not so long ago so thinking about trying to make something happen with the old school crew?

And he's back! Nice to see another thread appear. Was not aware you'd moved up a state though, that's pretty insane! Sounds like it's becoming quite the play toy! Second Josh, needs more pics!

What's happened with the unicorn, dare I ask? Last I'd read, it was still around, albeit in bits...

Cheers,
Ben

hey ben what's new mate? yeah i moved up here almost 2 years ago now. it's quite different to back in Sydney but i'm getting used to it and definately can't see myself heading back down any time soon..

mate the unicorn lives on! not in pieces, just hard parked out the front. She was actually running well but was only driving it maybe once a month if that. A couple of months ago the thermo fans have decided to stop working so haven't had a chance to looking that and find out what's wrong. this weekends project i think. I have a trackday at our local track up here, Lakeside Park in a few weeks so need to get it sorted before then!

Blast from the past, welcome back Aek! Nice ride mate.

Ello ello Jase how ya been mate? hope you're keeping well!

#623922 Subaru Ascent 'a work-in-progress'

Posted by aekOne on 17 July 2023 - 12:36 PM in News

There's fresh hope that Subaru Australia could add the Ascent large SUV to its local line-up to take on the likes of the Toyota Kluger and Kia Sorento, despite years of rejection.

The local operation's former chief, Colin Christie, told CarsGuide in April, 2020 that the Ascent was unlikely to make it Down Under as it isn't available in right-hand drive from the US factory that builds it. However, current Subaru Australia managing director, Blair Read, struck a more optimistic tone in a recent interview, making it clear that the Ascent remains on the local agenda.

"Always on the wish-list," Read said. "A work-in-progress."

He added that the issue remained the same as when Christie was unable to secure it - the lack of right-hand-drive production.

"The plain issue with getting Ascent is it's built in America, in left-hand drive, and their demand is out-stripping their production capacity. So, to get that here, that's as simple as the challenge gets," Read explained.

However, despite this being the current situation, Read made it clear that should US supply either increase or demand decrease and production capacity becomes available, getting the Ascent built in right-hand drive in the USA is definitely an option, as was the case with its predecessor, the ill-fated Tribeca.

Tribeca was [like] that," Read said. "Tribeca was right-hand drive and built in the States."

Adding the Ascent would fill a crucial missing piece for Subaru and has the potential to dramatically increase the brand's local sales. The Outback is already the fourth best-selling 'large SUV' in Australia, but adding a taller, more-direct rival to the likes of the Kluger and Sorento would be a boost for the brand and fit nicely with its SUV-heavy line-up.

Read clearly sees the potential.

"It's something we keep working on," Read said. "No news at this point, but something that would be an opportunity."

Unlike the five-seat Outback, the Ascent is available with seven- or eight-seater layouts in the US. It sits on the same Subaru Global Platform as likes of the Outback and Forester and is powered by a 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that makes 190kW/376Nm.

#623920 Le' new nugget aka Levorg

Posted by aekOne on 17 July 2023 - 12:12 PM in Builds and Projects

Sup ya'll,

After seeing Kong's thread documenting the progress of his VA WRX, it has motivated me to do the same..

A little while ago an opportunity came up to get my hands on a Levorg which is a car i've often looked at with interest so decided to buy. I've owned it now for a little under 2 years and have really enjoyed it thus far. As far as future mods go there isn't much i really want to do apart from JDM style number plates, CS rear diffuser and maybe one day a 6 speed swap.

It was turned at Diversion Garage up here in Brisbane and is making 179kw at the wheels which i'm told is about as far as it should be pushed with the CVT to remain reliable. I probably could have got the same gains with a chargepipe, dump and tune but that's no fun is it!

Mods:

Processwest Khanacooler
Processwest Cold Air Intake
Processwest Chargepipe
X-Force Headers
