My 1991 Liberty Gx has a steering issue. When I turn right then turn back to straighten up, the steering wheel is alligned towards the right. But when I turn left then turn back to straighten up, the steering wheel is perfectly central again.

The car has done around 254+ K's. Worn out shaft/column or something?
Hope its not a safety issue.
If so how much would this set me back to get fixed?

I would say it may well be.

Could be a number of things:
Worn rack bushes
Worn lower arm bushes
Worn rack
Etc....

Get it looked at ASAP and ask for a quote.

Check steering components for play and report back.

It sounds like the symptoms of worn out steering rack bushings.

Turned out that the steering rack mounts needed changing. Set me back $144 at Jax quickfit tires. The steering wheel isnt perfectly alligned though, but it is better than before. I wonder if i took it to a Subaru sevice garage would it have been cheaper?

Agreed.
Lazy repair is lazy.

Take it back.
