Hey guys i have a 1998 gen2 liberty RX, when i bought it the guy had changed the diffback exhaust, so basically a muffler , anyway i can only just hear slight bubbling from inside the car when letting the throttle of at about 4k revs usually in 3rd gear, does anyone have any idea what i can do to make this sound more prominent without destroying anything? so you know i am planning on getting a 2.25" resonator back exhaust system if that might make it louder, i also changed the airfilter to a k&n high flow air filter, the one that just goes into the stock box, i read that increased intake could also help?

Get a GC8 WRX exhaust mainfold. Will bolt straight up to your 2.5 NA and increase the boxer note as its unequal length.

 

Should be able to buy one for easily sub $100.

Hahah yeh i got one easily for $76,putting that in when i get my exhaust done, but im not talking about the boxer note, im talking when you let of the throttle in high revs and it sort of makes some popping noises in the exhaust

I don't think I have ever heard a N/A EJ make that noise.

One of my mates had a nugget Gen2 (2.2) that was a total wet fart machine when you let off the throttle. Popped and banged all day. I think it just had a cheap cannon on it from memory.

Mine does it occasionally but only in the right conditions. Its not overly loud, and I'd prefer it that way. Ej22 with uel and aftermarket setup. To a 4" cannon. Dont mean to blow my own trumpet but sounds epic for an n/a.

Hahaha yeh i dont want it to be massive bangs but i want to be able to hear it, you guys are all talking about 2.2 though, i guess ill see how it sounds when i change my exhaust system maybe with free er flow itll be louder

I could always retard the ignition timing and fork my engine after a while hahaha no im only on P's not ready to destroy my car just yet

my old 98 Gen 2 RX did that around those numbers, but i had gc8 manifold, 2.25" cat back and an xforce muffer with a chrome tip, sounded tits... i especially loved the crackle on the over run...

Yes that is what i want and thats what ive already planned on doing except leaving the res in and having an oval offset/center 7x11x18" muffler i will take out the res if the car isnt loud enough or i dont like it for some reason
Your xforce muffler a cannon or oval???

I suspect the crackle and pop is because any aftermarket changes to the exhaust are making it flow better, and without a corresponding tune, run rich; dumping unburned fuel into the exhaust.
