So almost two years ago I picked up a gen 2 gtb from an older gentleman in Sydney who couldn’t register it in NSW due to the dodgy VIC import scheme. Since the original Australian owner had registered it prior in ACT it wasn’t such an issue for me transferring rego. The GTB had the ej20R swapped out for an ej207 with vf30 from a jdm bug sti with matching ecu. Besides exhaust, springs and a ghetto cut and weld short shifter and knob from the jap owner the car was stock, right down to the jap spec radio.

The day I picked it up in Sydney

The body wasn’t perfect with small dints across the body and paint damage to the front bumper. The interior had clearly been used as a family car for most of its life and used to cart bikes around in. The driveline and engine seemed to be in very good condition with it having a pretty easy life before my ownership.

Over time I began changing out some parts like fuel pump, audio gear, strut braces, sway bar, bleed valve, v7 sti rims, 4 pots, etc.  Recently when I collected a nice big apexi front mount along with some other goodies from pete’s red sled it set off a chain reaction of mods I would need to get the pipework/cooler to fit.  After thinking about it for a while I figured I may as well pull the engine to clean it up and fix some leaks as well as sorting a silicone intake and parallel injector mod before running a bunch more boost through it.

Then a couple of days ago, a week out from when I had designated time to pull out my engine. A friend sends me a link to a gumtree ad to a mates old gen 2 gtb that he had sold on. The car came complete with supposedly busted clutch and positive camber rear passenger wheel from sliding into a gutter, along with a years’ worth of being parked outside in the weather. It was advertised stupid cheap, so an hour later I was standing next to a sad looking gtb handing over a deposit to get it trailered to my house the next day.

This gtb kept the stock twins setup but had a straight piped cat back, stock liberty struts and minor other things.

The first night of having it sitting in my garage I ripped up all its carpet to clean the filth.

I then started to find some of the jdm goodies the car was holding.

I’m not even sure entirely what my plans are for the blue gtb at this stage (besides pull some of the better condition parts for my silver gtb :D ). In the mean time I plan to swap its clutch and get it running to its former glory.

Sweet!

Keen to see your progress.

Is the silver one missing the GTB rear lip? The bar looks like it's off a GX?

So i got my hands on some alloy control arms as well as whiteline ALK and front bushes for the silver gtb. After being robbed of $80 to have the old front bushes pressed out i bought a 6 ton press from supercheap and pressed all the new bushes in. These are whiteline's motorsport series so they are pretty brutal on street. I'll see how tolerable they are for me but might go back to something about more comfort spec in the future. Got a pretty decent deal on the set so no complaints i guess.

Out with old, in with new

_MG_1481.jpg

Also while removing the interior of the blue gtb I came across one of the previous owners ‘crafty’ install of an sti shift boot. Not sure.

_MG_1350_1.jpg

Hopefully it will clean up ok and mount it properly.

Wags lyf
