Noticable humming or howling noise when accelerating in 4th or 5th gears between 2000-3000rpm. Noise disappears when off throttle. In the video I create the noise 3 times by applying a little throttle and again after the traffic lights. Go to 15 seconds and turn down your subwoofer/bass to hear it a little more clearly. Car has been driving fine. no unusual vibrations in the gearstick, interior or anything...

Any idea guys?

I used to get this in my old Subaru, I took it to multiple mechanics, changed wheel bearings & hubs and nothing changed, listen closely to your transmission. could be coming from there.

If it is a transfer bearing, which it might not be so don't take my word for it, I wouldn't be immediately concerned but it will eventually need to be fixed. My transfer bearing is quite loud now, especially in 3rd.

The noise is a little louder now and happens in 3rd too. Will try and upload another video later.

What's the average price to replace the transfer bearing? I was thinking of replacing the clutch at the same time too.

Cheers guys.

Some gearbox places have a standard price for a basic strip and quote.

Probably best to take it to a reputable mechanic first and get them to diagnose the issue. When Bluekong had gearbag problems, a random mechanic up my way took it for a 5 minute spin and diagnosed it. Didn't charge me for this.
You may get lucky too.

It may end up being 1 of many things.... And all the other things that may cause noise in the drivetrain are way cheaper to fix.

Good luck with it, Jason.
