Hi guys,

Very new to the forum and Subaru's in general so please be patient with me ;)

I am in the process of converting my VW dragbug from VW power to Suby power.

I was given a 2.5 short block that I am assuming was a DOHC block because the pistons have the  square type valve reliefs.

I was also given 2.5 SOHC cylinder heads.

It is possible to run the SOHC heads on the DOHC short block? or am I going to need to find DOHC heads.

Thanks in advance.

You can run the sohc heads but I belive there's only a specific combo that works without work. That being a 25D block and 22e heads. Thia is quite a common swap in America as it gives a boost in compression as well. Googling subaru franken motor should help find some answers
