That's the fuel pump control module -- the turbo models have a variable-voltage supply to the pump (I think its 1/3, 2/3 and full on), whilst the NA's just have on/off via the relay.

It lives in the boot - left-side panel. Behind the panel forward of the jack in a wagon, somewhere similar for a sedan according to the wiring diagram.

Yup. I think there is also a slow blow fuse in the engine bay for the fuel system too.

thank you for the input guys.

I am having problem starting the car only when its hot. I did a bit of research on the forum and youtube and a few of them fixed this problem with a fuel pump relay replacement. is that means I have to replace the round metal one?

mmmmm... I'd check the pump was not working before I replaced the relay.

You should be able to hear the pump come on 'high' for a few seconds (noisy), then throttle back to the 1/3 quiet mode when you turn on the ignition (without starting).  Dig in under the RHS rear seat cushion where the pump lives if you can't hear it.

Check that it isn't turning on when you have your hot start problems... then check the voltage at the pump contacts.

Could be dodgy relay, dodgy pump, dodgy pump controller (they are known to die sometimes, I think).  If you bought a new one, then plonk it in and see if your problem has gone.

My car was playing up and not starting when it was warm but couldn't figure out what the issue was. After a while the fuel pump was started cutting out intermittently while driving which is obviously very dangerous so got proper stuck in to find the issue. It turned out to be some dodgy wiring with the installation of the Brant alarm to the fuel pump relay was causing both issues. We removed that point of imobililisation from the alarm and its been fine ever since.

Even if the Brant is wired well enough, there are small relays in the Brant. Hot and cold weather can crack solder connections. When the pump is dying it can draw more power. My mechanic explained that the pump had been dying for a while, took the Brant and fuel pump controller with it. You can try bypassing the Brant for the fuel pump, just make sure you solder it really well and tape it up well. Those round fuel pump relays are quite solid and he had not heard of one failing before.
