Hey Guys, I get a bit of tram-tracking in my car (going over grooves in road it will make my car PULL itself in to that groove / ditch / whatever) and it has been getting worse of late. I recently read something on commodore forums of all places, I read that someone had replaced the control arm bushes and that this particular person had not suffered tram track symptoms since doing that upgrade. What I am wondering is, do whiteline stock these replacements or am I better off looking to get a genuine Subaru part (STi / group N perhaps?) to try to resolve this issue. I am running stock 16" rims on my car now with standard suspension also, and it has not always done this. Even changing lines and running over the cat eye's on the lines sometimes can produce a shock and movement in the steering too. I am pretty keen on resolving this as soon as possible as it does start to grow a little tiring after a long drive. Keen on hearing other peoples experiences and thoughts on this topic. Thanks, Dylan

My car started doing this BAD when i fitted the 18's, but has since all but stopped. Tyre place put it down to the particular wear on the tyres. Inflation pressure can affect this also. Changed tyres lately? Just a thought.

Mark - Haven't changed tyres lately no. All are inflated to 34psi front / 32psi rear. Strange. Aek - have you driven it since that was replaced?

I don't see how this post contributes to my thread, Paul.

If you believe it does, please explain.

Anyone know if whiteline sell all these bushes?

it could be caused by worn bushes, worn ball joints and most commonly bad wheel alignment, if you have toe out it increases turn in and reduces understeer but creates tramlining, the tyres also play a big part in it. have a look at your tyre wear and alingment while your there ask them to lean on the bushes with a big bar and see how much movement is there.

dylan. you nutsack! your car drives fine. bushes etc etc won't help you with tramlining. get used to it softcawk! the only logical explanation for this is the fact that you're running directional tyres. go to your local tyre shop, and ask for "crossply" tyres. teeheehee

Alex, it hasn't always been like this. Even using the SAME tyres it was never like this. I am convinced something is still munted. I get a bit of shuddering through the steering wheel as well, felt strange last night after I came out of a round about at a bit of an angle... Damn wet roads, heh heh.

you need to stop masturbating under the steering wheel.

take it to a decent aligner to get them to check it all out for you.

My B4 used to do this, new tyres and alignment stopped it. Slowly starting to do it again, so the alignment is prob out again or maybe the bushes wearing out?. I'd start with a good alignment and check while their under there as suggested.

Let the record show I've had 2 alignments since I noticed this problem, and replaced control arms at front (not sure about bushes, though).

For the record? LOL Dylan the fact that run different tyres front and rear doesn't help. As mentioned. Get your car checked out suspension wise. Buy low performance tyres. As they're not directional. Therefore won't tramline. Why won't you take it from someone that's been there done that? Self devised zero mechanical expertise internets diagnosis FTL

You know my work hours Alex. I already noted down the info you supplied me with and thanked you for it. Your suggestions regarding tyres are not of any use to me.

Dylan

And why is that Dylan?

I'm telling you.

Directional tyres causes tramlining. Probably the more they wear out, the more it will be apparent.

Get used to it.

Coz i'm getting used to the fact that I'm offering sound advice with experience, only to have it slammed back into my face.

You're welcome to rebush your car at around $1200 trade, parts alone. Labour will involve more costs. But don't be upset if it doesn't yield you the results you wanted, or even exacerbated your symptoms even more.
