Howdy
I have a check engine code showing a bank 1 o2 sensor needs replacing. Question is where is bank 1 located and what reccomendations are their for buying after market o2 sensors as I would rather not pay Subaru $300+

Thanks sluts

After some research it turns out the sensor is around the transmission area. Has anyone replaced one of these and if so what was involved in accessing the area?

  1. crawl under car
  2. remove some heat shields (probably)
  3. unplug sensor
  4. put ring spanner on sensor
  5. try to unscrew
  6. swear at it.
  7. Have a think - spray with some sort of penetrating lube to free seized bolts
  8. drink beer
  9. goto step 5.

There's two, the front O2 (which I think is bank 1) is on the passenger side.

I find the easiest way to access the front sensor is to turn the steering full lock to the left. Take the screw out that holds the plastic guard behind the wheel in place and gently pull it out of the way to expose the O2 sensor. A 22mm ring spanner will fit over the plug once you take the wire off the little metal brackets. I can't remember if there was a heat shield in the way or not, if there was I never put it back on...

The rear O2 sensor sticks out upwards at the beginning of the second cat. Not too difficult. Same deal, use a spanner. Just might need some wd40.

Bank 1 us the front sensor.
It's an air fuel ratio O2 sensor.

What year model is your car?

Just re-fitted a new sensor (ebay). The old one was very haggard. However the advice you gave was fantastic and made the job a breeze. Old sensor came of easily.

Does anyone know if you need to replace both o2 sensors when replacing one. Supposedly it's a common issue and will still show a code even when replaced (as I'm now experiencing)

Ebay sensor will more than likely be the problem. Only use genuine for the front 02 sensor.

I chased my tail for almost a year because of a dodgy ebay O2 sensor. It was a cleverly worded knock off.

Bought a brand new genuine O2 sensor (ebay as well but from a seller I trusted) and the problem was solved.

Yeah the seller is offering a refund and inquiring into the part to assess why it failed.
