Hi all,
Whilst under my car today I noticed a worrying amount oil loss from the rear main seal area. Now I have recently had both this and the oil cover plate replaced for the 2nd time in 8 months. It is becoming very apparent that this issue isn't result of dodgy servicing and may be something else. As such I was wondering what thoughts their are on why this may be occurring. I am led to believe it may be in relation to crankcase ventilation however I am unsure what parts control or assist in this process. Guidance would be loved.

Cheers sluts

Keep it simple. Get the engine fully degreased. Get it thoroughly checked after 200k's and then get a second opinion. Subarus leak down from crankcase breathers, turbo oil returns, head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, sumps and just about everywhere else as it all gets blown backwards as you drive. Very hard to diagnose over the internet.

I've decreased then engine multiple times. I'm simply following directions from a trusted mechanic who believed this issue with the rear main seal being in relation to the crankcase pressure regulating system.

Have you checked the oil feed/drain lines underneath the turbos?

Checked both turbos. No signs of leaking. It's appears to be very visually coming from the seal between engine/transmission

Have a feeling the PCV valve is the issue. Will be investigating tomorrow.

Sounds like either the rear main seal of the rear separator plate. Engine or box out to fix unfortunately

I'm aware that the oil would likely be leaking from there. But I had it replaced a week ago. Wouldn't a blocked pcv valve cause this to occur

maybe they fooked up the install - easy to push the rear main seal too far in, or scratch the housing.

Or lip/groove in the crankshaft surface caused by the original seal.
