Hi folks, have removed square type electric fuel pump. Hooked it up to a battery, it sputters for a moment then stops. Should this pump run constantly when powered? Or are they just a type of priming pump?? Or is it screwed? The carbied engine cranks fires and dies. Any help would be great, many thanks.

G'day thumpa,
Sounds like its rooted. Get a new one. When constant power is applied it should keep jiggling away.
In the L series it needs to register that there's spark to excite the fuel cut relay system so that fuel supply keeps up once the engine starts to crank
Cheers
