I bought 2008 liberty couple of weeks ago. It has 90000 km.

I think it needs belt replacement at 100000km. How much does it usually cost?

What other issues could I expect in future.

I have used Nissan and Toyota cars in the past and never faced a single issue.

I'm pretty sure an 08 will have the major service at 125k km. And depending on where you get it done budget up to $2000

Good news then as it means it is at least 4 years away. I usually drive around 8-9k in a year.

Should be serviced based on time or km.

So the 125,000km service should have been done at the 60 month mark.
So maybe already done in 2013/2014.

Have you looked through the service history.

If you want that engine to last just be sure to have a regular oil change (6 months) and don't leave old coolant on there either.

Otherwise if you wait to reach a km reading and leave old fluids sitting in the engine it could mean head gaskets failing.

I did my timing belt service myself and left it a bit late, from memory it was probably the 6 year mark or around 100,000km. The pulleys did feel a lot more worn than the new replacement ones. You could tell they were on the way out.

If that service hasn't been done yet, another tip is make sure the thermostat is a genuine part if replaced.
A bad one of those could mean overheating and again risk the head gaskets.

Unfortunately I don't have service history.

Can a mechanic have a look at it and tell if the timing belt has been replaced? It was fleet vehicle of reputed organization. They usually get serviced regularly.

What are the signs that timing belt has been changed?

I got it serviced the day I purchased so next service is due in Dec.

Just call the local subaru dealers that could have possibly serviced it.

If you know the original rego number then they could pull up of the belt was done.

On the passenger's side of the timing belt cover there are 3 bolts.
Removing those means you can remove just that small section of the cover.
Then you can sort of inspect the belt.

Here is some detail on that:
