I'm on my 3rd cold/flu for the year. It's been terrible up here, seems like everyone has it. I even got the flu vaccine before winter, did jack shit.

I don't see my tax cheque anymore since earning over the uni fee threshold, they also take about $150 each pay too. I only have like $10k left last time I checked.

Wow.

I got $18 last year. Retail + bracket creep.

Should slide under this year.

Zac: I'm on salary, also IT. If you do *any* work from home, the deduction floodgates are open. Internet, phone, electricity, rent/mortgage interest, travel expenses between work and home.

Dry July. Today was forking nuts.

If you want a good accountant, I can sort that out for you.

PM me if you're keen

I may just take you up on that offer. What do good accountants normally charge? I received my Notice of Assessment today.

Run of the Mill Accountant is like $100 for personal return Gaz. But higher for better. I personally just do eTax/mytax then get it checked by Accountant to ensure I'm not too dodgy.

An accountant won't give you a big return, most give you a standard return because they get audited if it's dodgy. Your situation is quite simple, you don't pay rent, have no property, work in a standard salaried job and have no dependents so save the coin and do myTax.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I've been doing my tax returns myself ever since I started paying tax. I just claim everything I possibly can in all honesty, haha. Can't you claim costs to do your tax in the following financial year though?

If you own and run the business, then enter capital gains tax when you go to sell your house. If you're renting I don't know how it works.

If you're not happy with your accountant shop around. I had one that gave me a return less than I could have done myself. By chance the next year she wasn't available and got her colleague who is awesome, so I book in with them each year.

And yes, using an accountant is a tax deduction in the next financial year's tax return ;)

Bumpty, even the physical words in your posts are going crazy now :P

Cheers

Good morning everyone. Voting done.

What is everyone's plans for the remainder of the weekend?

And yes, using an accountant is a tax deduction in the next financial year's tax return ;)

I thought so.
