I want to replace fuel injectors in my Suby - as per the topic's title - it's a twin turboed ej20h.

I prefer avoiding the Subaru dealer at this stage.

I am posting here to finalize the picture, consult the forum expertise, since I can't - at this stage - see the end of the whole process. What's in my mind is something very simple like:

1.) find out what the FI type is.

2.) buy replacement.

3.) swap.

1.) I found this thread >>http://www.subyclub....e/?hl=injectors<<, and learned that since it looks like there is (looking at them in my eng. bay) grey plastic, I have the 380cc injectors.

I would however, prefer to learn more. If I take one out, is there a part number on it? Or something that will let me uniquely identify the part? Because there is a good chance the FIs in this particular engine are not the original part.

(This bit is added way later. Yes there is the part ID right below the aluminum cap. Grey top fuel injectors in this case have code 0R05; or ORO5, no need to disassemble stuff too much to find out what's inside)

2.) Where in Australia is THE fuel injector place for Subaru people? (Really hoping it's a real place and not just my secret wish) I look online, but most of the FIs on offer are high performance WRX and STI 500cc+ (too much bling, wtf). Would anyone care to recommend a fair place, either online or off... I am based in greater Sydney, NSW, but will not mind to travel for the good stuff.

Where is that Japanese 2nd hand spare parts shiny market like they show it on telly. Surely there must be one in here...

3.) Take old one out, put new in. But since I will be in there what other things should I replace? I imagine all the rubber fuel piping along with the fuel filter couldn't hurt. But what else?

Yes, so this is what I have in mind in regards to my fuel injector replacement, and now I would like to hear from you guys.

Thank you.

Is there any reason you want to replace in the injectors straight up? Are they confirmed faulty? Getting them cleaned and flow tested wont hurt and will tell you if you need to actually replace them

I got a bunch of pinks from a Rev D.

They were removed and replaced in a bid to fix another issue but didn't make any difference so they were working when removed.

Yeah, good idea; I'll do that first.

That and I also don't want to change the flow rate so I don't have to fiddle with the air/fuel ratio...

Grey's are plentiful. Used in 20G wrx(so v1-4 Ausdel) as well as rs turbos and 20Hs. Theyre not bad at all and seldom seen to go wrong. If theyre working why mess with them at all?

What does it mean?

That's the thing, I don't thing they are. (I also consulted a licensed mechanic who confirmed it's most likely fuel injector)

So, I am looking for a place where they sell my injectors.

Yes I am interested. Can you post some nice macro pictures of those.

And what are you chasing for the set - dollar wise...

Random question... Is there a trick to remove the injector from fuel rail?

I took off the passenger side fuel rail but I failed to figure out how to separate the injectors?

Is it just brute force?

The driver side seems a little more challenging, I am thinking if it's necessary to remove the fuel rail in order to get the injectors out...?

Once you take the top cap off (with the two screws)

Lots of wiggling and brute force, try not to throw them across the room when they finally pop out

I did the passenger side... it's weird, this side seems to be a lot worse off than the drivers side. it had the rocker cover leaking oil in the past, but the drivers side didn't. now I only did injectors on this side, but the car runs so much better. no CEL under load, cold start is excellent, fuel consumption dropped.

To separate the injector from rail, there is no need to dismount the rail from manifold, but I think it should be done, so it's all accessible for cleaning... anyway I used a flat head screw driver to break them free of rail.:

One thing I wanted to mention, the plastic caps on the injectors:

post-5378-0-32324300-1476014580.jpg

Well this plastic cap was so fragile it crumbled upon touch. one piece even remained glued by that gunk on the inside of that manifold inlet hole... fishing skills increased.

Now I cleaned everything, put it all together, without caps:

post-5378-0-71761000-1476014749_thumb.jp

So, to conclude. Even though the pictures here show just the dirty state, I ended up wiping all the gunk, and as ironically, fuel still works the best as a cleaner.

I then flushed the injectors with injector cleaner. I used the battery and some leads to operate the relay inside the injector, very simple setup...

And then put it all back together and yeah, it's a successful temporary fix.

One question that is on my mind. Do these injectors actually "spray" the fuel? Because when I was flushing them all I could see was a stream of injector cleaner fluid.

But ideally, there should be spray no? So the fuel mixes well with the air...? Maybe this happens under higher pressure. When the fuel pump operates...

Hmm I often wonder if what I write makes sense to anyone...

Those plastic caps are called pintle caps. You can get them anywhere that services injectors. Easier if you have an existing one to compare.
