Hi All,

Not sure when this started happening, as I live in the city and putt around most of the time. At first I thought it was the 2ndary turbo, but it seems to be the first.

I am only getting 7-8psi on the first turbo. A distinct lack of power. Once the 2nd turbo kicks in, she goes off like a rocket.

Any ideas?

Any help appreciated,

Cheers.

primary boost solenoid working ok?

Put the diagnostic connectors together and make sure its opening and shutting ok -- blow some carb cleaner and compressed air through it

7-8 psi sounds like wastegate pressure.

There are no CEL codes showing when I connect the black diagnostic connectors under the dash.

Is Primary Boost Solenoid the correct term? I have a the full service manual in .pdf, and a search does not find that term.

Probably just 'boost control solenoid'

sorry - not sure what the precise Subaru terminology is.

You'll find it in the left front guard .. but no need to get to it, just blow the through tubing that goes into the guard area behind the battery.

IIRC correctly, the BCS doesn't click when the car is put into diagnostic mode.

You need to run 12v directly to the solenoid from a battery to get it to operate.
Just be careful if you do this because the last time I did it I had a slight problem with fire lol.
Wob was there and was quite amused.

But as Dunc implies... the solenoid should be in an open position and blowing cleaner through it should do the trick.
Hot wiring it is probably unnecessary unless you just want to confirm it's working.

Found it in the manual. Wastegate control solenoid valve.

Will attempt to check it tomorrow.

Can't seem to get at it without taking the guard off to check if it's clicking or not.

I did blow some carb cleaner through it, by taking the pipes off at the joiners, squirting CC in, and then a blow from compressed air.

No change in behavior.

that solenoid is involved in controlling boost pressure for both primary and twin turbo mode. if it's getting full boost when the secondary is added in, it's fine.

if it's primary only, focus your efforts on the ECV positive pressure solenoid and even take a look at the ECV itself.
