Gents,

After my little fiasco with cooking brake pads this morning, I pulled up and managed to adjust my pedal and everything was fine for the other 2/3 of the trip to work.

Finished up work and jumped in the car, only to find on startup and running, the "Airbag" light is illuminated and won't go away.

Car still runs fine, everything works.

Tried to reset ECU via plugs, stays illuminated.

What's going on here?

Just had a quick push and shove under the dash, light turned off. Turned car off and on again to confirm, bastard thing came back on and wouldn't go away. I must have nudged or upset something under the dash while I was doing the brake pedal yesterday.

check the yellow plug that runs to the steering column

That's the only connector that comes to mind for the airbag in that area
Also check the connector near the drivers side kick panel

It's possible to check airbag codes
The gen 2 has a seperate connector for the abs and airbags
Has two little grounding pins coming off it

I think it's something more sinister.

I played around with the black diagnostic connectors (found them plugged in, unsure how long that's been!) and found when I unplugged them and cycled the ignition a few times the airbag light is still illuminated.

Kept them plugged instead and then did the same and the light turned off. I turned the car off and left this way and I hope tomorrow it's gone for good.

I think this might have something more to do with the original cluster > bfm conversion wiring, taking into consideration I don't have a CEL anymore.

Can anyone confirm that a Rev D/E actually has a traditional CEL on a BFM? B4 guys would know lel

I tested it by disconnecting the AFM and I found the AT "power" light flashes when there's an issue. I guess that's right because of the change in ECU styles to the "P0" style of diagnostic codes which need to be read instead of converted out of flashing a flashing CEL. Maybe this is the issue, because the BFM isn't designed for diagnostic code retrieval by the old green/black plugs so when a fault occurs the BFM doesn't know what to do.

Maybe I need to bypass the BFM and have the CEL wires run into a light under the dash or something.

Definitely has a generic CEL

I don't think the cluster should matter with diagnostics as it should be the ecu that just sends a signal to the light to switch on and of

Maybe the CEL globe is dead, or Nick done goofed the wiring. I dunno!

Fixed.

CEL globe was blown.

Found a "how to" on UK Legacy.

Link if anyone ever gets stuck. This is for A-C BH/BE
