Hey guys,

Took knock sensor off today and noticed the plugs are different.

Mine is a v2 WRX sensor and the replacement is from a 2001 Legacy GTB.

Different plugs, similar looks (obviously).

Now, I thought that they would be the same and after discovering the connector is different I was planning to just cut and re-join the old plug on to the new sensor. Can this be done, or are the different ECU's expecting different signals?

don't be a dodgy prick. re pin the plugs. don't cut/solder wires. you'll cause an irregularity in the shielding, and may get radio-related interference, thus worsening your condition!

OK I meant the highest quality fix. There are 2 wires from the new sensor, and one from the old I've discovered.

Old sensor for Pre99 models is 1 wire and newer ones post-98 are 2 wire, so you would need to find another donor sensor :-) From memory the newer ones have an earth lead and the older ones don't, but I would stick with the correct one :-) Regards Paul

The second wire is just a ground for the shield. You can simply pick the pin out of each plug and swap the plug over. Knock sensors are generic, they only really differ in the method of fixing to the engine block. Some Nissan sensors are exactly the same as Subaru.
