I currently have a 2001 Outback, with a 3.0 auto in it, and a trashed body.
I just bought a 2001 Outback that has a 2.5 litre, with a blown head gasket.
I'm assuming that swapping the 3.0 litre including trans, into the 2.5, will be relatively straight forward. 😬

However, and this is where it gets exxy, I also have a 2.5 2009 Liberty sedan, with a noisy gearbox. Is there any chance the gear box out of the 2001 2.5 Outback, would fit the Liberty?

My main reason for going back to the older Outback is that the Liberty, whilst great to drive, just isn't coping with the dirt roads, and it needs to go.

The 3L and gearbox will physically swap over but the wiring will be a head fork. Would have to swap the whole loom over as well.

As for the 2.5 box into the gen 4 it might not swap over and if it again the wiring probably will be a mess as the gen 4 is quite a bit more modern and complicated than the gen 3.

Best bet will be to fix up the 3L outback body as the h6 is a much nicer engine

? Manual box should be a direct swap.

Front diff stubs won't be on the gen4 but shafts should swap over anyway.

Even better: put the manual in the place of the auto with the H6. Get the TCU patch from am auto and happy days. Dual range H6 ftw!!

But that doesn't help with the Gen4...
