Yes, CAREFULLY.
A voltage applied to the air bag inputs may cause it to deploy! Follow the workshop manual.
Have you searched you tube for 'air bags going off'?
Good for a giggle.
I doubt the racks are interchangeable but have you compared part numbers?
Wouldnt mind changing to the rack in Ty's avitar

Thanks mate, haven't compared part numbers yet, but I'll check it out. It would be interesting to see if they are the same!
I'll check the youtube vids of airbags....
Battery disconnection is a no brainer here...

remove battery, pump brake and hold horn to remove all residual power.. but still there is a chance of it going off.
aslong as you use hand tools ( no impact screwdrivers or anything like that) and work in a way that if it does go off your head is not dislodged then you are ok, its scary how dangerous the gen2 seatbelts are.. they have a explosive reactive charge, one of them went off when the boss was rumaging through a box of belts.. cause they were all tangled n shit they spun around and he got knocked out lol.
Also the steering racks are different im pretty sure, i can check tuesday for you. cause im only working a few days a week over there for the next 2 weeks.

What's up with the steering rack? I would gavr thought the gen 2 would be similar
Nothing's up with the steering rack... Just interested to know whether the Gen4 is interchangeable with previous models. If it is, I'd be keen to look at the possibility of installing one purely for the telescopic feature.

Chris, I think you mean the steering column rather than the steering rack?
Maybe there is a way you could rebuild the column using bits from a Gen4? This may be the only way to get a telescopic feature. I assume it doesn't exist for jdm or usdm gen3s?
Cheers

Yeah! That's what I mean... Column!
No, it doesn't exist for any gen3.
Would be a good feature to have added though. Mark has mentioned before that such a conversion may not meet ADR rules or something along those lines, so it might not be worth looking into.
In my mind, it seems like an easy enough conversion though???
Yeah, Marks right, wouldnt meet any adr. But if you wanted it bad enough I guess you could get it engineered.
Errr....no, not easy.
