I always thought S001 were superior to RE003.
Treadwear indicator shows RE003 is softer at 200 (IIRC) compared to 280 for the S001. Tread blocks are also larger on the RE003 indicating less squirm of the blocks (but with increased noise).
Oddly Tire Rack doesn't list the RE003, but calls the S001 a "Max Performance Summer" tyre.
If I told you I was a compulsive liar, would you believe me?

FFS!!
The Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 looks EXACTLY like the RE003.
I wonder if that's why they are no longer listed??

I did.
Not a brilliant tyre, but good bang for buck.

But you want to stay on the road don't you?

I haven't actually gone into that much detail before, thanks Jase.
I'll definitely go with either one though as I'm purely basing everything down to the price anyway. I've always been a fan of Bridgestone and the 215/45R18 are not as popular a tyre size as the 225/40R18 are by the sounds of it, and if I'm saving myself $80 per tyre then it's silly not to go for the RE003s.

RE003's are soft and fairly grippy. No noise complaints at all. A little more 'mushy' at 245 on the WRX than the 225 on the B4. But I changed to them for the softer tyre wall. The stock Dunlops were skatey and I was going to need back surgery. They're wearing ok, still plenty after a year of driving. I do mostly highway runs though.
225/40R18 is what I put on the B4. The RE003 didn't bulge the sidewalls and handled great.

Great review, thanks for that TSG. Looks like I'll be good with the RE003 should they prove to be the cheapest option.

Heading up to Queensland (Cairns and Port Douglas) tomorrow morning for a week. Jess' birthday gift is a trip away to the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. I get to swim with Nemo, see some migrating whales (it's that time of the year apparently) and check out some crocs on one of those river boat things.
I think I've got a keeper.
No idea on the itinerary as she's kept it quiet but yeah, should be a tops week away.
