Recently bought some rims second hand and only found out a week later when I went to fit them on the car that one of the rims has a hairline crack from the lip on the face and goes down a little over an inch. Just seeing if anyone knows someone on the central coast or Sydney that can repair it, have already spoken to a company in Gosford but they said they are unable to fix it under the Australian standards...

Not sure on rim repairers as I've never had to have mine fixed. I have heard of mobile rim repairers. Are they good and comply with the Australian Standard? I wouldn't have a clue.

What rims are they if you don't mind me asking?

I don't see why they couldn't fix it but the fact that they've cracked means that there is a weak point in the rim. It wouldn't be as simple as putting bog in it or something. Just try and make sure the places you ring are legitimate and not just a bloke in a van with 'I fix rims!' signage on it.

Rims shouldn't crack unless they're a cheap rim or been subjected to a huge blow of some sort. I've seen one of those cheap after market rims that hit a pot hole or two that ended up with a number of small cracks in it.

If yours is a hairline crack that doesn't start or end anywhere in particular, eg: from the edge of the rim or where the spoke meets the ring section are you sure it's a crack in the rim and not an imperfection in the paint? Does the tyre go flat overnight?

Cheers

The wheels arent in the car for now so I cant really tell if the tire is going flat. I dont know if its a different story if they were on the car and under load. But here is a photo where you can see it starts at the lip and continues to go down and if u run ur finger over it you can feel the separation in the crack.

I've had rims repaired before. Lenso ones.

Pretty soon after the repair the rim leaked right where the weld was.
Would have been better of sourcing amother wheel at twice the cost.

I have been trying to source another wheel, have only found one place in Victoria that has them, sent them an email seeing if they sell seperatly, how much, and if they ship to nsw.

Never use Photobucket again. Imgur is where it's at now. ;)

Get the patch for photo bucket, stop complaining and enjoy ;)

Only a matter of time before imgur goes the same way...

And in that time another image hosting site will be established. ;)

I shouldn't have to add an extension to my browser to view images on the net.

If anyone is looking for a good wheel repairer on the central coast try Craig from coastal wheel repairs in Gosford. He had a look at my wheel and found that it was buckled in two spots which caused the hairline crack and quoted $180 to fix all of it which only took two days, no respray but can be arranged at an extra cost.
