Hey all, I have just got my Leggy (2Gen, 96 model, with EJ20H, VH13 primary and waste gate on secondary turbo) back on the road after a mini resto and the primary turbo is still noisy. I believe it has a bad bearing and is non rebuildable. From what I can read though on VH13's they are also known as a RHF4 turbo, for which the car came with a rebuild kit. Do they come in BB and journal bearing versions?

Anyway, I can get a new VH13 off ebay from Kinugawa, but have found a remanufactured VH20 which is still off a 2Gen for a lot less and from what I read is a better turbo. From reading on here it will physically fit but is this going to upset the running of my car? I believe my ecu cannot be tuned and I don't really want to spend the money on it anyway.

So- stock replacement, or upgrade to VH20?

Cheers

Josh

I would say avoid the VF20 unless you plan to replace the secondary as well.

Why? Have a look at this post from clubsub

The pairing sets VF13/VF14,VF16/17,VF18/19 and VF20/21

Primary turbos VF13w/16w/18W/20W

Secondary turbos VF14W/17W/19/21

w=wastegate with small actuator

W=wastegate with large actuator

Primary:Peak Flow or max CFM VF18>VF20=VF16>>VF13

Secondary: Peak Flow or max CFM VF19>VF21=VF17=VF14

I currently have a VF18 and VF14 on my car.

As you can see, they both have large wastegates and I believe this results in lower boost pressure in TT mode (too much exhaust escaping via wastegates). The VF20 also has a large wastegate.

At some point I plan to replace my VF18 with a VF13 or VF16 with the small wastegate.
